Is Bobby Labonte long overdue for a win or is it just not gonna happen with Petty Enterprises?

Question

I got into a debate about this the other day with a friend and we were on different sides of the fence. I believe he will get a win by the end of 09. He runs well from week to week. Not spectacular but well. And every now and then pops up in the top 10. Just wanted to see what everyone thought about this.

There's no doubt that he's overdue for a win. Unfortunately, I just don't see it happening at Petty Enterprises.

I think it'll happen before we know it.  It'll be a great day seeing the #43 back in victory lane.

I agree.  I remember I almost fell off the couch with enjoyment when he won a Busch race last year (I forgot which one) but I remember saying he needs to win Cup.

If the people who joined petty enterprises make it better in the next 2 years then ya i think he could win but if petty enterprises doesnt get better then no.

He has been long overdue. I don't think he'll get it this year but next year may improve with the Petty moving and partnering with them folks that has all the money (can't remember who they are).

he could win. its very debatable just rly 2 hard 2 see if he will. every now and then he pops up in tha top 10 but the next race he's out of it. if he runs good like this for the rest of the season he may have a win by 2010 but i just rly don't see it happening

I like Bobby and am happy for him when he does well...  however as long as he's in a Petty car he'll never win unless:  He misses a 42 car pile-up or on some sort of crazy pit strategy rain shorted event.

I think you just might be right.  He is good, and extremely loyal to Petty.  Now with new $$$$$$$ and new partner in PE, things could be looking up for Bobby.  I think he'll pull off a win before then.

It's a shame to say but Bobby is way overdue for retirement.He was once a great driver but i think it's time to get out and let a rookie have a chance. I still respect him though.I mean he's nothing like mongo or kyle petty but he needs to retire while everyone remembers him for his winning days

OK...by the end of 09 I will give him that.  He's a good driver.  I would love to see him with a win too.   Also, my neighbor down the road.  Every race day he hangs out that old green and red #18 flag with BOBBY LABONTE on it.  lol

It's the thought that counts.  And the loyalty!

Probably will not happen this year. But many folks inside NASCAR community see big things coming from Petty next season. New BV cash should make them more competitive but things will take time to hash out. Bobby is still capable of winning. Jeff Meedering is capable. Robbie Loomis is capable. In time, so will the equipment. But they will have to get the #45 up and running too. It will take a total team effort to get the #43 back in victory lane.

I like bobby and hes a good racer. he is due for a win. He does so well raceing then some itod or something always happens to him. hes sloly becomeing better and better again. hes and old dirver but he still has it i belive. look at jeff gorden he didn't do to good for a few years then all of a sonon he almost won a champon ship. i hope bobby still has it.

He deserves a win, but it ain't gonna happen in the ride he's in. He's too loyal to Petty for some reason...

Man, he really is but I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon.  Maybe after the new investors pump some much needed money into the program there and Richard is not as involved with the operations he can be more competitive.
