Is Bradley out of contention of making it to The Ryder Cup team?
Keegan Bradley finished the fourth round at 77, he was 7-over par. Overall in the tournament, he finished with 18-over par. This means that his chances to make it through to the Ryder Cup team are very slim.
The poor ending could mean that Bradley will no longer be in contention for the Ryder Cup team.
Qualification for the team is primarily based on the points system, which is calculated from the players’ result in major championships. Top eight players automatically qualify for the team and currently, Bradley is on the eighth position.
Bradley’s poor finish behind Stricker and Fowler means that he will surely drop points and will probably come down to the 9th spot in the ranking.
Zach Johnson (3,313 points), Keegan Bradley (3,247 points) and Rickie Fowler (3174 points) all lie very close to each other in terms of points.
Any bad result for them would mean that they are out of contention for the eighth spot in the Ryder Cup team.
Points are awarded for the result that a player achieves in a particular event, plus points are awarded for every $1000 earned.
In the US Open 2012, Bradley needed a strong fourth round finish to have some chances to play in the Ryder Cup. Instead, he ended up finishing way down and registered a very poor score.
Bradley’s poor performance means that the likes of Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson have a big chance now of making it to the Ryder Cup team.
Although there are still a few months to go before the elite competition starts, there is not a great deal of time left either.
Bradley needs to sharpen up in the upcoming events if he wants to make it to the final team. Otherwise, it will become very tough for him, as other players are already closing in on him.
Ryder Cup starts on 25th of September, and there are about two and half months to go before the championship starts.
Bradley seriously needs to up his game in the future tournaments, if he wants to be a part of the Ryder Cup team because there is hardly any points’ difference between the 8, 7 and 9 places.
