Would it be dangerous to attend an urban university in Brazil if you are an exchange student?

  1. The crime rate is high, but if you are smart you would most likely never be affected. Just don't walk down the street with a ipod, expensive purses, expensive jewelry... whatever. If someone does want to rob you they will come up to you tell you to give whatever they want to them. Give it to them and they will go away. In Brazil they generally don't want to hurt you. They just want your stuff. They will not mug you like people might in US cities.

    Also just try not to travel alone. Try to go places with people.

    You will be safe.


  2. No. I say that Brazil is less dangerous than the USA. You never heard about a student that have murdered dozens in a brazilian campus with guns.

    The dangers are the same for all (brazilian and foreigners) and for any big city of this planet.

  3. Just stay out of the abandon alleys and you should be alright, Brazil has dangerous places just like the US, use your head and travel with people until you get to know the dos and do nots
