After reading an article regarding Brendan Shanahan and his return to the New York Rangers, I was wondering this premise: after Shanahan, how many players are left in the NHL who began their careers in the 1980s?

  1. Shanahan isn't a dying breed because he started it a long time ago (though there aren't too many left), but because he knows his team is the Rangers and that's where he's going, not where the money is but where the logo is.

  2. Joe Sakic.

  3. I am not Cyren, but there are still a few that play.  Great Question.

The only other one I could think of was Rod Brind'Amour off the top of my head.

  4. Chris Chelios (1983-1984)

    Gary Roberts (1986-87)

    Brendan Shanahan (1987-88)

    Glen Wesley (1987-88)

    Luke Richardson (1987-88)

    Mathiew Schneider (1987-88)

    Joe Sakic (1988-89)

    Teppo Numminen (1988-89)

    Mark Recchi (1988-89)

    Jeremy Roenick (1988-89)

    Martin Gelinas (1988-89)

    Mike Modano (1989-90)

    Rod Brind'Amour (1989-90)

    Curtis Joseph (1989-90)

    Mats Sundin (1989-90)

  5. Chris Chelios, Gary Roberts, Curtis Joseph, Mark Recchi, Jeremy Roenick, Rob Blake, Mike Modano, Teppo Numminen, Martin Gelinas (if he plays this year)
