  1. Buenos Aires is beautiful!!  Can you convince a Spanish speaking friend to come with you?  That would be ideal!

If you enjoy and are accustomed to travel alone then I would not rule Buenos Aires out.

  2. I would not reccomend it, although I see several solo ladies doing this. You should at least learn a few phrases like "Che fa?" (What's up) and "legal" (cool). Also, only take taxis at night and avoid traveling on the Subte during rush hour.  But Argentines are friendly and most will not harm you

  3. Personally, I would not do it. Then again I think that it is unsafe for me to travel in downtown Indianapolis alone. I just don't trust people. I am 20 too.

  4. I think you could if you use your head. Dont get drunk, dont stay out too late and dont be in certain parts of the city.

  5. I've gone around town alone, not often, but i have. I speak Spanish, but i doubt you'd have any problems. Buenos Aires is a very safe city, but as i tell everyone, the most common type of crime in all of Latin America is petty theft like pickpocketing so don't go around flashing $1,000 watches, cell phones or any things of that sort.

  6. Argentina is a fairly safe country for women to travel in. Besides a few quick come-ons by the local men (that are meant to be ignored), women feel at ease exploring Buenos Aires and any other area of Argentina. It is recommended for women not to wear flashy or expensive-looking jewelry and to not walk around over- or under-dressed.

Buenos Aires is a very safe city and local police keep it that way by actively patrolling all tourist areas. Violent crime is extremely rare and smaller towns in Argentina are even safer than Buenos Aires, with crime worth mentioning being unheard of.

Nevertheless, it is important to remember there a number of thieves who spend their time in tourist areas on the lookout for easy prey. Always protect your valuables and keep your passport and tickets in a safe at your hotel.

  7. I was born in Buenos Aires and came to the States in 2001, when I was 21.  I was not alone here since there was already a group of Argentines friends of mine.

If the 20 year old female is not a drinker, willing to have a  quality time and eager to make good friends without being too confident, I would say go ahead and do it.  Also, though in the past year there has been many american tourists I would recommend that the person who goes there knows Spanish or Italian.  A significant number of Argentines are Italian decendents, therefore the Spanish sounds more like Italian.

I would also suggest the Downtown of Buenos Aires, it's safer than the suburbs and Salta is another option. This last one is in the North of Argentina and is quite visited by tourists all over the world.  Good Luck!

  8. ya sure.. i wouldn't see any problems from my experience. have fun :)
