  1. The answer depends on your point of view.

In modern context you could say one who is a loyal friend, sound of character and willing if need be to put himself or herself at risk for another; than it is alive and well in the military. It is also alive in some of the social services such as fire rescue and police.

If your point of reference is blind obedience unto death for the cause; often unknown to the practitioner than in most of the civilized world it is dead. Good riddance to, for it was a system used by tyrants to extend their rule.

Honor, truthfulness, bravery, and chivalry  are not dead. We see them all around if you know where to look. The bad and unjust are often what make the headlined and the lead story on the six o'clock news. Sometimes we need to read between the lines. You may find many heroes there.

  2. The CODE OF BUSHIDO was written by NITOBE  in 1902 long after thew samurai hung up their swords. It represented an ideal of what the perfect samurai (which means servant by the way and not warrior as many assume.)was supposed to be but being human like all of us and not gods very few probably were.

It was twisted by the japanese military government to convince young men to go off and attack other countrys and commit all manner of atrocitys in it's name and convince some to fly airplanes into enemy ships.

  3. Bushido is the Japanese term has been directly translated as the "way of the warrior" or to have a fighting spirit, willing to die for your cause (being the emperor, who was believed to be a direct descendant of the sun goddess, Amaterasu).

Some answers have helped me to see the question in a different way. But, I am pretty sure this way of thinking was developed much earlier than 1902, as bunminjutsu has suggested.  Like during the medieval period of Japan.

One person did mention about the Pride organization of Bushido, which I never thought about.  Loved the matches as they were lower weight classes with exciting fights.

  4. Well, reading your other questions it seems that you are more concerned with your face than any warrior code, so for you the answer is NO

  5. I think hes asking about the fighting organization Bushido; and the answer is no, its done. It was a part of Pride and it usually had the smaller weight classes. I think Pride discontinued it, and then eventually Pride got bought out and dismantled by the UFC.

Too bad though, they always put on a great show.

  6. For those who do not understand Bushido. Check out a copy of "Living the martial way". I think artist from all styles could gain insight from this book. It really helped enlighten me and helped me to understand myself, my goals, my training, and the overall tradition of the arts.

To answer your question: I would say that outside of our US military, police, and fire fighters. There are few artist that actually follow Bushido, they allow outside influence to impress strongly upon them. Which in turn leads them to hunger for false respect, money, and drive without vision.

  7. Yes, many people practice the bushido way.

  8. Ask a Marine

  9. yes i am,i answered didnt i?lol.

  10. This is like asking if there are any Samurai left in the world!

and do you think that there are any totally pure martial artists who have only studied and mastered one style!

We, as modern earth walkers do not have the discipline or the loyalty to anyone or anything in that perfect and undying manner anymore I am afraid!!

    Pity isn't it!?

  11. SiFu Frank has a great answer.

  12. Bushido is a code of the warrior not just the Samurai, As there are warriors still out there like Military personal and pro fighters and just plain old Martial Artists like you and me, which follow a personal code to live their lives which is what Bushido is in my opinion. So yes I think Bushido is alive and well.
