To thor: Dry ice would drop because it gains dencity when the gas freezes. And as a whole, all that co2 will weigh more than the water. But there is no dry ice being released into the "atmosphere". I'm not so sure if it goes to the atmosphere.

Do bubbles rise in your Pepsi bottle? No, CO2 is not heavier than water, but it does get dissolved in water. That is why the oceans are the largest CO2 sink. Also, the oceans expel CO2 as the temp increases. This is why CO2 increases lag temp increases.

Dry ice will sink if dropped in water.   Don't know if this is because it is heavier than water or if its because it vaporizes and causes bubbles which reduces its buoyancy.

No, but the individual atoms do separate. That is the carbon sinks, and O2 becomes transitory. They recombine with some form of energy, such as heat. The process is fairly simple, except for the down- draw mechanisms of water. Which is not readily understood even today.
