Is the state of California more prepared for the worst? Then the hurricane Katrina people?? Since we have more money I'm guessing we are more prepared. Why don’t other states focus more on being prepared for life threatening events?? So they don't lose so many people like they did in Katrina?

  1. I would say that California is more prepared for the natural disasters that normally plague them. WIld fires and earthquakes are so common, I would assume California is more prepared. I mean, they have the largest population to protect. But I don't believe they are more prepared for the worst in all aspects. Southern states have good hurricane relief efforts, although they may fail. Efforts in California may fail as well. States do focus on life threatening events, but they have other problems to focus on as well. In fact, Louisiana had a good program. It just failed...miserably. FEMA was more to blame.

  2. ~~I think our building codes have kept  us well prepared for earthquakes. I also feel secure in all the planning, training sessions, alert systems, etc. will keep us as safe as can be expected. Now it's up to each person, to be able to take care of themselves and family with emergency supplies as we have been told to do for years. I think we the people are much to complacent.~~

  4. You could say that people in Michigan are perfectly well prepared for earthquakes.  Or you could say that since they don't experience earthquakes that we're totally unprepared for them.  We're also totally unprepared for hurricanes. We're unprepared for wild fires.  The biggest disaster we face is unemployment.  So why not come pack your business and come to Michigan?

Whose fault is it if someone buys a house in an area prone to mud slides?  Is it the builders who knew better?  The local zoning laws which allowed it?  The buyer, who didn't do proper research?  God?
