  1. Campobasso is a city, its the capital of the province of Campobasso and of the region called Molise. (The region has only one another province: Isernia.) Until the 1950s or 60s, Molise was united with the region of Abruzzo and Campobasso was just a province of the larger region called "Abruzzi-Molise".
