I thought there were only 50 states in the US and Canada wasn't one of them, but I always here Canada called the maple leaf state. So which is it? Is Canada a state or just a territory?

  1. Canada is a separate country just like South America is a also a  country. even though they are both attached to America There are territories in Canada however.

  2. Canada is a country, just like Germany or France. It is separated into provinces, which would be somewhat similar to a state in the U.S.

  3. Wow!!

This is a sad statement about what our education system is producing.

  4. State can be used as another word for a country or nation. Canada is a dominion of Great Britain, though for all practical purposes, it is a sovereign nation.

Also, South America is not "a" country.

  5. Canada is a country.  Part of the British Commonwealth.  Its flag features a large red maple leaf in a field of white.  At one point in time there was a movement to attempt to annex Canada to the United States by force, but saner heads won out.

  6. Canada is a separate country.

  7. Canada is a country with 10 Provinces & 3 Territories.

It is sad to see that the American Education System would not teach children about the Country to the North.  We have played a vital role in many wars with the USA.  Our schools have tought us about the beginnings of North America, 13 colonies of the USA, the location of all 51 states (actually 1 is a district), and various other things about them.  Why is it that Canada is disregarded in the USA schools?  Makes me wonder.
