Is Canada (esp. Vancouver) Vegan friendly?

Can anyone tell me how easy it is to find vegan food in Canada, especially in Vancouver? Are there a lot of vegan restaurants?

Can you usually find a vegan option on the menu in normal restaurants? Thanks

I am a former chef and saw this question posed in the V&V section, and like those answers and this one all are quite true and accurate, I am a former resident and worked in Vancouver back in the 1980's.

Vancouver is considered to be the La-La land of Canada, more and I mean this in a friendly way, Hippie generation people are out there, so organic and vegetarian and vegan options are very easy to find, I like the Chinese ones, Indian is always a good choice, there are Japanese, Thai and straight veggie place, but the Greek and other place are open and have veggie option available.

There are quite a few vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Vancouver.  Also, there are quite a few which have decent vegetarian options even if they still serve meat.

At the same time, I've found there to be restaurants which almost very few vegetarian options, specifically Chinese.
