  1. My opinion is no, I love Montreal and Vancouver. Can' wait till the jazz fest.. the dollar is just about equal with Canada.

  2. Yes, most of the tourism marketing in Canada is being directed towards the Canadian market rather than in the USA.  The provincial tourism boards see it as a better investment to place ads in Canada to keep the tourism money here as Canadians head to the USA to spend it with the better dollar.

In many areas that I am familiar with, American tourism has dropped dramatically as a result of the dollar and passport requirements.  (or confusion if one is required)  Many camps have said their patrons are experiencing more delays with increased security and turn aways for DUI convinctions that had never been a problem until the last two years or so.

  3. I'm in the travel and tourism business in eastern Canada and yes, I have noticed a sharp decline in American visitors.  On the other hand, I have also noticed a dramatic increase in visitors from South America, Australia, Asian countries and the UK.

  4. It is always something as far as excuses go about what is keeping American tourists out.    The top 4 right now are American recession, strong Canadian dollar, high gas prices, and perception by many Americans that they currently need a passport to cross the US/Canada border.

Yes, there has been a decline in US Tourists.  My biggest indicator to that is I have noticed a slight drop in hotel prices this year.  Obviously trying to make a trip more affordable and fill their empty rooms.

As already noted, one solution has been marketing to Canadians, as many regions of Canada are still going through an economic boom.
