I'm going to a wedding in Cancun, Mex and I'll be there for about 6 days. Is it expensive to go to the clubs or eat out?

  1. It's the most expensive place of Mexico but it's still ok.

  2. It is not cheap. The restaurants, at least the top ones like La Parilla's and Perico's on Yachitlan Ave will charge American-like prices. Expect to pay about $12-$15 per person at these establishments although the service at La Parilla's was outstanding. Order the banana's flambee if you can, they will grill the bananas right in front of you.

If you go with the smaller restaurants you might get away with paying a bit less. If you eat in the Hotel Zone you will absolutely pay through the nose because every business in the Hotel Zone is stiff. If you want a reasonable price you will have to pay the .65 cents U.S. to take a bus to downtown Cancun so you can eat at the same places the locals eat.

The clubs are pricey. Coco Bongo is $50 basic entrance fee (no drinks and wait in line) with $60 offering shorter wait times (and includes drinks). I would visit Coco Bongo again, I absolutely loved the friendly environment and the shows were very entertaining. The clubs offering wet t-shirt contest usually charged $15 - $25 depending on the club but don't hold your breath for the contest.

If you have very little money just eat at Walmart. They have cheap eats like Pizza, spaghetti, peaches and cream (now why can't they offer that here?!?), submarine sandwiches for around $2 (and these are big 9" sandwiches too with lettuce, cheese, and ham and other things inside). Walmart is located in downtown Cancun. Just look for the R3 bus or look for "Walmart" on the bus windshield.

For cheap souvenirs you can opt for the big mall in the Hotel Zone but it likely won't be as cheap as Market 28 (or Mercado 28). Market 28 is like a big flea market but here, you're more likely to find someone you can bargain with if you shop around. I'm not sure if they will bargain with you  in the big mall in the Hotel Zone. I bought nearly all of my souvenirs at Market 28. Just remember the 1st price they quote you is about double what a reasonable price is.

You can take the ADO bus to downtown Playa Del Carmen for around $7 U.S. At this time of year this is the slow season for the Mexican Riviera, so all the hotels have rooms available. If you want to be creative (and this is what I should have done), you can hop around and spend a couple nights in Cancun. Hop aboard a bus to Playa Del Carmen and spend a couple nights over there. Personally, I stayed at Fiesta Banana for $51/night, or you can stay at one of the hostels on 5th ave for $24/night (your own private room) although the hostel looked kind of yukky from the looks of the lobby.

Cozumel Island is a great place to snorkel (and scuba). The ferry is $12 from Playa to Cozumel (one-way).

  3. yes, is totally gringo overpriced.

  4. I doubt its expensive it seems like everyones been!

  5. Looks like Maha gave a very accurate description of prices in Cancun.  Yes, it is expensive.  The clubs run around 40 - 60 dollars per night...open bar.  You can get open bar at xx Bar for 15 -20 and it is a fun place.  Go to the clubs with your resort...it is cheaper and you get VIP seating.  Go all inclusive ...... it is the cheapest route.

  6. not really but there is one place called Coco Bongo which is all you can drink for about $60US....it's fun though, you should go

  7. yes its expensive. depends where you go <3 ask for prices
