Is Cancun a good place to live in?

I am searching for a house in Cancun and I have some questions.I have been to Cancun,well,Riviera Maya in all inclusive hotels so I know the area.How are gas prices,food prices,and crime?Are locals friendly to Americans(that don't work in hotel biz)?

All depends on what are you looking for, like small towns? or City? because is big difference here, I think playa del Carmen is good but is small  if you want teenager desmadre hehe, it means party all day it will be ok.

In Cancun and All Riviera Maya the crime is the same, but don't worry is not like los Angeles, NY, or Chicago or Mexico City, you must to be care full like all ways.

Gas is about 7 or 8 pesos per Litre, food and other things are not expensive all depends where you buy, of course  if you buy a Corona in Hotel Zone will be very expensive.

If you come to Cancun, choose the center zone, rent for some time, in order to start to know which place could be good for you in a future.

People are friendly with foreigners, but all depends on you, to be Friendly too and make Friends easily

i would recomment moving playa del carmen instead.  i know that there is definitely more crime in cancun but the gas and food prices would be about the same.  i live in playa del carmen and love the atmosphere here.  while it has everything you need, you still get a small town feel.  cancun, to me, is just a big, dirty city and i personally don't feel safe there.  also the people here in playa just seem friendlier as a whole.  maybe it has something to do with the fact that the tourists here aren't mainly drunken college students.  maybe its because its more of a beach town.  who knows.

another advantage to playa is the tourism industry.  it seems that now playa is the place to go along the riviera maya.  as far as locals being friendly to americans, that depends on the local.  i have many mexican friends and i've also experienced people being rude and disliking me because i'm american.  for food prices, it depends on which restaurants you go to or which food you buy in the super.  sorry, i can't give exact info on gas prices - my boyfriend always gets the gas!   hope this was somewhat helpful!
