  1. It depends on what you like. My parents had a holiday house in Camps bay and I went there often. I hated being there in December. It was always very hot and extremely over crowded. Traffic jams to get home and no space on the beach. You can't even find parking at the V&A or just about anywhere worth visitng.

    I prefer CT in February.

Outside of that it is a incedible hoilday destination and I highly recomend it.

  2. yes Cape Ton is awesome in December, great weather, beautiful beaches...what more could you ask for!Go into Cape Town city for nightlife, all the good clubs are there.

  3. Brilliant. Just make sure you have adequate protection from criminals. Hire a bodyguard.

  4. Cape Town is VERY overcrowded in December and can be extremely hot. It is a nice time of year to go as its the dry season in summer there. There is so much to do and it actually worth to visit more then once. Depending on what you like doing there are loads of things to see and do.

You must visit the V & A waterfront - there are loads of shops (and i guess if you are from overseas the exchange rate for you make most thing cheap!), loads of restaurants etc. A trip up table mountain is also a must - worth the cable car ride up the mountain just to see the beautiful view from the top. if you like penguins go to Boulders Beach near Simons Town - you get to walk around and se penguins up close. A visit to Robbern Island is also worth it as well as Cape Point. There are so many place just out side Cape town that are also worth a visit - The Wine Farms, Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Hermanus.

Visit Long Street in Cape Town if you want some night life - it has a tremendous vibe and you are gauranteed to enjoy it. Camps Bay not only being a beautiful beach is also a great place to sit and have a cocktail and watch the sun go down.

Please give me a shout if you need any help with the trip (pegglet2004@yahoo.co,uk)! As a travel agent in South Africa i can reccommend tour companies etc to help. I hope you do come to SA as you wont regret it!

  5. Hi. Ppl here gave u quite useful info already. I live in capetown since d begginin of last year.N its been amazing! From d btfl festivals (jazz, etc), scenery (gardens n parks, wine routes), nightlife ("long street" has mostly clubs n bars),etc...CT is nb 1 in tourism in South Africa,n december is summer time so u should book in advance Bt,ppl from SA say excellent stuff about Mozambique (if possible, try 2go 2 one of our btfs beaches, warm water, friendly ppl), specially if u like seafood: most of d seafood in CT is imported from Mozambique,n life's relatively cheap in Mozambique.

Im nt takin away d credits of Capetown,ok? ;)

  6. Cape Town City is lovely during December with festive lights and all.

The weather is usually nice too....

  7. Absolutely!!! - you're gonna love it.

Check out www.wheretostay.co.za to find accommodation. You might wanna book soon though. - International guests tend to book long in advance but locals usually book accommodation last minute. So you should be able to find something if you start looking now.

  8. Like the others have said, stunning that time of year, great weather, plenty to do, but sooooo overcrowded. Many people from inland areas such as Johannesburg flock to Cape Town in December.

But even though I keep telling myself I'll never go back for a holiday in Cape Town in December, for some reason I keep gravitating back.

  9. Karen C has said it all.  December is summer school holiday time, and Cape Town is buzzing.

  10. Depends what you are looking for.  It's really lively  and busy -- top tourist season for South Africans and overseas visitors.

It's not really an all-in package tour, lol on the beach with pina colada in hand kind of resort destination, so if that is what you want you may be disappointed.

  11. You'd struggle to do better, to be honest!

Beaches, nightlife, incredible food, wine and wine farms, not to mention the mountain!

And the weather in December is pretty amazing. I'd HIGHLY recommend it...

  12. C.T. is overflowing with tourists in December and January, i.e. it is very crowded.

However, the weather is nice, even though the wind can still be quite strong in December.

There are so many things to do, from Table Mountain to Cape Point, the list is endless.

Cape Town has quite a good nightlife, you should be able to find nice bars and clubs along Long Street.

And be warned, flights to South Africa are most expensive in December.

    Enjoy your stay.

  13. It used to be prior to 1994.Now it is just your typical African toilet full of crime, drugs and gangs. It is extremely unsafe and has the highest per capita murder rate in South Africa.None of their Tourist spots are safe with daily violent attacks on Table Mountain or on holidaymakers in their Hotels.Of course the Tourist Industry lie through their teeth and come up with all sorts of fancy statistics to try and show you otherwise but it is very dangerous and the kind of place to avoid.Women are raped on their Beaches in broad daylight but of course South Africa has the highest rape stats in the World with a woman being raped every 3 seconds. They have some of the nicest Squatter Camps in Cape Town (when they are not murdering or chasing Somalis away) which you can see first hand on the drive away from the Airport. It used to be a very pleasant place but now it is just a dressed up toilet.

  14. No. I would pick a more closer place, like aruba. Or st. marrten!

  15. Cape Town is always beautiful, but in December, being holiday season, it is hard to get near a tourist attraction, we waited 2 hours and 40 minuts to go on the cable car to the top of Table Mountain, and as usual in the festive season, prices is higher than usual, but the beauty of Cape Town makes it worth while

  16. I think it,s a great idea to go to cape town ,durban ,or anywhere. As long as we get a couple of weeks of clear roads in joburg i dont care where you go.Nothing personal you understand.

  17. Cape Town in December is not just loaded up with foreign tourists but it is full of South Africans getting away to the beaches etc for their summer holidays. The biggest problem you might have is getting a room so book early.
