  1. I have heard nothing but great things about Car Max. Their sales associates don't work for a commission. They get a flat 150$ for each sale they have quality mechanics. Just make sure that your a pay close to blue book value and watch out for high millage cars. I recommends that you also go to ConsumerReports.Com and do a bit of research on the car of your choice prior to signing on the dotted line. Some manufactures have bad years for models and such. Good luck!

  2. Their primary source of cars is trade, though they also buy from auctions. Nothing wrong with auctions; it's where many off-lease and trades go.

As far as whether or not they're a good place to buy... It just depends. They will typically be more expensive than other used car dealerships, and in some cases may even be more expensive than a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle. You also can't haggle at all; the price on the sticker is the price you pay, period.

If you suck at negotiating or are terrified by care salesmen, it may be the place for you.

If you want a (very brief) warranty and the only other used car lots around you are sleazy, it may be the place for you.

If you're looking for a deal, Carmax is probably not the place for you.

  3. Most people I know who've bought car there are satisfied.  I know many people trade their cars in but I can't say if most are trade-ins or from auctions.  I'd probably go to their website or call your local Carmax to find out.  I almost bought my Chevy from there last year but went to Hertz rental instead.  That's another option for you to buy a used car.  Car rental places tend to keep their cars in good condition and often offer used cars for sale.  Good luck!
