  1. Burton,

  2. Don't stay in Copacabana. That neighborhood is a magnet for thieves and prositutes because that's where all the dumb tourists stay and they all walk around at night with their cameras and heavy wallets looking lost and vulnerable. I would stay in Ipanema, Leblon, or Barra da Tijuca (Barra is about 40 minutes drive from Centro but undoubtedly the safest neighborhood in Rio).

If you have any wits about you, you'll be fine in Rio during Carnival.

Marina All-Suites or Marina Palace in Leblon- nice

Sheraton in Barra da Tijuca- nice

DON'T stay at the Sheraton Rio Hotel & Towers...it is nestled along a dangerous favela (slum) on a very dangerous road and far from everything.

Yes. if you respect us and our culture, and read that ^^^ youll probably be ok. i dont know why people forget that this, along with central+south america are 3rd WORLD. wow...

  4. I dont think so... but you can go to Rio and go to Buzios, there is beautiful and safe...

  5. yes as long as you recognize that you are in a completely different culture and country... Rio is a very dangerous city dont get it twisted at night it is even unsafe to stop at red lights so you will see most drivers just cautiously keep moving.  just because its a dangerous city doesnt mean that you cant learn alot and as long as you are respectful and smart you shouldnt have any trouble... esp during carnival there are tons of tourists from all over the world so its not like you will be the only one visiting. most of the tourists tend to stay in cocacabana or impenma also there are tons of amazing tourist attractions to visit all over the city!  i would stay in cocacabana though they are used to tourists and it is pretty safe and rite on the beautiful beach...night is when to be most cautious though

  6. Rio de Janeiro has a high rate of violence all year round and it´s increasing every year. so what to expect in times of carnival when people are all out of their minds, it´s such a devilsh party, deseases , aids contamination increases, thefts, stray bullets and the dangerous minors smelling glue...

Do yourself a favor, go to Bahia it´s quite safer and much more "family" if you know what I mean
