Is Cartegena colombia a nice and safe travel destination?

If I wanted to go to anywhere in Central or South America would this be the #1 destination for the beach as well as culture?

yeah, it's great! i live like 2 hours away by car and go there about once a year...i love it. the "ciudad vieja" (old city) is a walled section of the city from colonial times, and there's really nice beaches too.

i recommend staying at the santa teresa hotel, it's in the ciudad vieja, it has a rooftop pool with a great view.

but don't trust the afro colombian people due to the are similar to the afro american only gangs and bad things

but the rest is a peaceful place

Absolutely. Cartegena is one of the most beautiful places in Colombia. But, if you want to get away to a nice beach with smaller crowds, try Santa Marta (about an hour east of Cartegena) or the islands of San Andres/Providenciales. Fewer people, better beaches, lower prices. And in San Andres, nearly everyone speaks English.
