  1. No, definetly the rest of Spain don't understand Catalan, in most cases because we don't want to understand it. Me, for instance, I understand Catalan, I live near it, but I hate people talk me in that language... because most Catalonian people knowing that they're in places where Catalan isn't spoken, insist in speaking it, and later they repeat the same in Spanish.

  2. Hi! I'm from Barcelona. Catalan is the language of Catalonia, that's mean everybody in Catalanoia speaks (so, understand) catalan. In the rest of the Spain if people don't study the language, dont' understand it.

  3. I'm also Catalan and must say that our language is not understood by all people in Spain. For example if some catalan people speak in Catalan on the Spanish TV they'll put subtitles so Spanish people can understand.

Nevertheless I think that if they put a little bit of effort it can be understood, is not that different. Some words sound like French...

  4. No- very different to Spanish

  5. Hi, I live in Spain ( Tenerife ) and as far as i know it isn't understood in the rest of Spain. I have lived here all my life and only ever met a couple of people who understand it. Sorry,
