I am majorly confused. I know Catania is in Sicily, but is it a city? Or a region? OR is it a provence? All my sources don't match. Is it like Australia, where it wears more than one hat? Please help, I'm just curious.

  1. city

  2. Catania is both a city and and a provice.

  3. Provinces in Italy are named after the capital city of the province - this is usually, but not always, the largest city (commune)  in the province. The population in Catania commune is about 6 times that of the next largest commune. As others have said, Catania is both a city and a province. A province in Italy is more like a county than a state in the US. Regions (Sicilia, Emilia Romagna, Lombardia, ...) are closer to states, at least in size. Political structures here are different than those in the US though.

  4. yes it wears more than one hat...catania is a city and a provence, but it's not a region (its region is sicily)

  5. City.

  6. It is the capital city of the province Catania in the Sicily region of Italy. So it's both a city and Province. Kind of like New York, New York.

  7. catania is a  city and is a provence of sicily
