Question:

Is Catholicism the ultimate shirk?

1. Worship god the father.

2. Worship a human being (Jesus) and pray to him.

3. Believe god goes inside your body as a Holy Spirit

4. Pray to Maryam to pray for you

5. Pray to dead people (saints) to pray for you

6. Ask saints to protect you (patron saints). Different saints protect different people (eg. the Patron Saint for sailors)

In effect, a Catholic can pray to a Saint, who prays for you to the Virgin Mary, who prays for you to Jesus, who then prays for you to the Father. If you don't worship a human being (Jesus), then father-god won't listen to you.

Big, big shirk?

  1. It is if you are a Muslim as you know the Prophet Peace Be Unto Him when confronted with worshipers of others faiths advised his followers to simply state "you have your beliefs and I have mine". Islam is my religion but you don't need to convince Muslims that there is no God but Allah and Prophet Muhammad was his messenger. Catholics can do as they wish and all other religions as well. If they choose to worship a Prophet over Allah SWT then that it is their choice and fine with me as long as no one oppresses my beliefs in Islam. When the Christian Crusaders fought to capture Jerusalem it was Muslims and Christians fighting under the leadership of of a Kurdish born warrior Sallahuddin.

A victory that was won by a man of great respect for Islam as well as fair treatment to his Christian fighters whom fought along side him and risked their lives to liberate Jerusalem from the Christian Crusaders.

  2.   I don't know, but it seems to be spoken of in the Qur'an:

5:116 AND LO! God said:  O Jesus, son of Mary! Didst thou say unto men, `Worship me and my mother as deities beside God'?" [Jesus] answered: "Limitless art Thou in Thy glory! It would not have been possible for me to say what I had no right to [say]! Had I said this, Thou wouldst indeed have known it! Thou knowest all that is within myself, whereas I know not what is in Thy Self. Verily, it is Thou alone who fully knowest all the things that are beyond the reach of a created being's perception.

Waith qala Allahu ya AAeesa ibna maryama aanta qulta lilnnasi ittakhithoonee waommiya ilahayni min dooni Allahi qala subhanaka ma yakoonu lee an aqoola ma laysa lee bihaqqin in kuntu qultuhu faqad AAalimtahu taAAlamu ma fee nafsee wala aAAlamu ma fee nafsika innaka anta AAallamu alghuyoobi

  3. No! Shia'aizim is! Catholics respect their God! Shia'a call him a liar

  4. All religions are pretty crazy - or "big shirks" as you would say.

    Harriet

  5. Islam teaches to submit and worship only God almighty the creator of heavens and earth and entire universe. Shirk is defined - to make partner of God in worshipping Him.  Which means worshipping God as well as His creations.  Catholics worship Jesus, Mary, Angel Gabriel as God's partners in worshipping,  Pope has authority to change any Law that God wrote in Bible. So Catholics also worship Pope

indirectly.  That makes Catholicism ultimate Shirk.

This is mere explanation of what Shirk is  and not extremism.

    Edit:  for Amin 4622

Muslims do not pray directly to Prophet Mohammad. That would be shirk also.  Muslims pray to God and ask God to bless the soul of Prophet Mohammad SAW.  There is a big difference. Catholics and Christians  directly worship Jesus and call Him their Lord. They believe God has

incarnated in Jesus. There is no such thing in Islam.

Mohammad SAW  was merely a human.  He was a media between us and God and gave us Quran. That is it.  Muslims do not even directly talk to Prophet Mohammad SAW. Islam is pure Monotheism. Muslims ask for every thing directly to God only without making any one  intermediary.

  6. How does this line of questioning soften the hearts of the Catholics enough to make them want to learn about Islam?

  7. Who are you to judge?

1.) God is like a fatherly figure it doesn't literally mean father but one may consider it such as we are his children.

2.) They do not worship Jesus but pray to him as Muslims do to Prophet Muhammad (We say to Allah to shower his blessings on the Prophet and his prodigy just as Catholics do to Jesus)

3.) God/Allah IS inside us, he is everywhere and he guides us everyday.

4.) What's wrong with that, after all she was the mother of Jesus.

5.) Again, why do YOU have a problem with this?

6.) What's wrong about this also?

I think your ignorance is a big shirk!

User, I would know this because I have taken extensive religous courses in college and I have several Catholic friends and they would argue against what you have said.

    Thanks for the thumbs downs!

  8. No. Wahhabism is. They believe God has a physical body!! Astaghfurallah!

  9. May we all be rightly guided, Ameen.

@ Saudi Hotgirl, All he did was state the religion. This is shirk and we know, how is it bashing if it is true? In Islam, its shirk. Not bashing, shirk. I didnt see any rude comment.

  10. Salaam'alaykum

I thought i would answer your question because for 27 years i was a Catholic, raised in a very strong Catholic family and neighbourhood. I still live here today as the only Muslimah in my neighbourhood.

So, firstly yes you are right-----Catholics do pray to Jesus (PBUH) and he is the main focus of the Catholic mass. In our home as a child growing up, every house would have a picture of the sacred heart, a picture of Jesus(PBUH) with his finger pointing to his heart.

Yes, Catholics believe in the trinity which is God, Jesus and the holy spirit in one essence-------Catholics believe Jesus is the son of God and is God in human form----they believe the holy spirit is God within each of us.

Yes Catholics pray to Maryam----or as she is called in catholocism---our blessed lady, mother of God, also holy mary------there is a special prayer to Maryam only that is said in every mass in the church.

Yes catholics pray to all the saints at mass and at home------there are saints especially for certain purposes e.g. if you lose something you pray to saint anthony to help you find it, if you want protection you can pray to saint martin------padre pio is another saint whom many people revere in their homes and on their person----by means of statues, medals and a piece of cloth from his stigmatised wounds----------

There is not one Catholic home i have gone into that does not have the sacred heart picture or a statue of our lady or a holy water font to bless oneself as they walk in and out of the house--------

I was always brought up to believe things were the way they were because thats how God wanted them-----but after studying catholocism indepthly i knew that there was something amiss------it never felt 'right'-----through my study of religions i came across Islam-----alhamdulillah------i remember buying the Qur'an and reading it and to this day i am so grateful to Allah (SWT) for guiding me to Islam!

I understand your question and it is in no way insulting--------All my family, many friends and relatives and neighbours are Catholics and i love them dearly-------but in honesty they understand not what the trinity is nor do they know exactly what Catholocism is-----In Ireland many years ago whatever you were told by the priest you were told it was right and it was a sin to ask questions or contradict------i remember as a little girl being terrified the devil would 'get me' because i had not done something i was suppose to do, or because i talked in Church----

I am not Judging here and niether are you, i am giving a personal experience of my own, i actually had a very happy childhood, but it was wrong to question a priest-----because you did as you were told or he would (we believed curse you to h**l)-------I remember my grandma paying money to the priests so as her relatives souls would not go to purgatory, because the priest would pray for them, as a result they would go to heaven-------i remember being told that if a young child died before they were baptised they went to a place called limbo-----where they remained forever-----a place 'floating' between heaven and h**l-----nowhere to be exact-----

This is the truth and i know many will not like these stories as such, but i was a very devout Catholic until i began to question and study for myself-----

I hope this helps in answering part of your question at least--------

And for those who said Muslims pray to Muhammad, I am a Muslimah and the only one i pray to is Allah(SWT)----He alone i worship, He alone i ask for help!

    Wasalaam
