Is Chael Sonnen’s trash talking the way to get a title shot? (Part 2) – UFC Special
Sonnen’s second loss to Silva was seen as a sign to retire by most fans and analysts. Even Sonnen’s manager revealed to media that The American Gangster is considering retirement. For some reason, what followed was quite a surprise to everyone. Instead of
retiring, Sonnen moved up in weight to the light heavyweight division.
Moreover, The American Gangster once again made a mark to use his verbal assaults in order to get a title shot. Jon Jones, light heavyweight champion of UFC, was the victim this time. Sonnen thrashed him verbally on and off, challenging him for a fight.
However, Jones knew well about Sonnen’s mind games and so he resisted.
Jones was scheduled to face Dan Henderson at UFC 151, but due to an injury sustained by the latter, the fight fell off. President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White came up with the idea of putting Sonnen in front of Jones in the cage, as he
thought Sonnen’s trash-talking has once again grabbed public attention. However, Jones played smart and he rejected the idea, saying he would not change opponents just eight days before the show.
“Hey Jon, What do you think will cost more? Your hospital tab or the settlement you made with the two broads from the backseat?@jonnybones,” was Sonnen’s tweet for Jones.
In a recent interview, The American Gangster once again shot Silva with his harsh words, saying, “I am better than Jon Jones and sound better than Sean Combs. You can dodge me now, but sooner or later...you and me are going to be the last two to get off
the bus.”
Sonnen is now scheduled to face Forrest Griffin at UFC in December. A win would take Sonnen closer to the title shot whereas a defeat might put his UFC career in jeopardy once again.
It should be noted here that UFC president Dana White is up for making a fight between Jones and Sonnen, if fans want it.
So, when it comes to trash-talking, Sonnen has definitely got something to prove. He does not hold a great UFC portfolio but his trash-talking skills take him all the way to the peak!
