Is Charles Gipson still playing baseball in the MLB?

Charles Gipson used to be an alternate player for the Seattle Mariners back in 2002 or 2003. He had been with the Seattle organization for about 10 years, but his contract ended about the same time Lou Pinella left as manager. Gipson went on the the Cubs, Yankees, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, a couple other teams and bounced back and forth to the minors. The last I heard of him, was through the ESPN web site that he was with the Astros. Anyone actually see him play or read anything about him playing recently? He was a good fielder, but not such a good batter. He was also such a sweet guy the few times I got to meet him. I hope he is still in baseball.

Thanks for any info,

  1. He was released by the Houston Astros on November 10, 2005.  He has not played for a Major League team, nor an affiliated minor league team since.

I can find no record of him having played for any other foreign or independent league since, but it's possible.  He may have played in the Mexican League for Tabasco at one point, but I could not find confirmation.

He does hold one major league record.  The most games played by a non-pitcher with fewer plate appearences (358) than game appearences (373).
