Do most charter schools close down in the california region? How about if the school is 2 years old for instance and is a charter school better then public LAUSD district ones?

  1. I would guess you're referring to the financial difficulties of LEAP and their unexpected closure earlier this summer.  Any school with a semi-independent funding stream is vulnerable, especially if parents don't ask questions and perform strict audits to know how much is coming in and how much the school spends.

Are charters better than public schools?  Not necessarily.  There are great charters and great public schools.  You really need to do your homework (try a site like GreatSchools "Research and Compare" feature) and physically go visit.  There are charters with awful scores and there are public schools with great numbers.  The key at any successful school is that parents have to be active (if just for the enrollment process), and active parents usually translates to parents that care that kids do homework, that kids go to school, and that kids succeed.

  2. Are you talking about CHAMPS?

I have friends who go there, and it is a fine school.

It is probably safer than an LAUSD school... it offers APs I'm pretty sure and if you take a good courseload you should be fine.

It isn't better exactly, it is the same academically.  You may like the people more or less depending on the type of freinds you tend to make.  I wouldn't worry about it shutting down, that seems out of the question.
