Is Chelsea Goal Keeper Petr Cech the best choice?  - Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 9 – Picks
Football will be waiting for another weekend of exciting football in the Barclays Premier League while Fantasy Premier League managers will be looking to gear up for action as well.
Gameweek 9 is almost upon the world and with a mid-week of European action in the UEFA Champions League done with, it is time to look ahead and pick out players who managers should be looking at to add to their squad.
This is an overall view with a number of possible players not making the final cut, to find out about them readers can read the individual Fantasy Premier League match previews for a more in-depth match-by-match analysis.
Here, they will only find only those players who are the most likely to end the weekend with more points than the rest.
Goal Keeper
Valued at 6.9-million in the current transfer market, the price for Chelsea’s goal keeper, Petr Cech, may be too steep for many, but if one was to look at the fixtures elsewhere in the league, Cech seems the most likely to keep a clean sheet.
Liverpool’s Pepe Reina has made a habit of conceding goals and Arsenal’s Wojciech Szczesny is fairly inconsistent as well, pulling off a number of fine saves before succumbing to a lapse of concentration.
Joe Hart and David de Gea face off in what is sure to be an action packed Manchester Derby and noting the unpredictable nature of derbies it is best not to take the risk of picking a goal keeper or defender from such a match.
Asmir Bergovic of Stoke City may be on everyone’s mind as well, but Stoke are not the most compact outfit away from home and seeing how their opponent is Arsenal, who have found some form of late, it may be a bit of risk. Whether the risk is worth taking
depends on the manager himself.
Michel Vorm, the Swansea keeper, is another choice and seeing how Wolves are not the most gifted side when it comes to attacking play, is another strong candidate to be any Fantasy manager’s keeper.
Everton’s Tim Howard was once a favourite however, his recent form is fairly inconsistent and a clean sheet against Fulham away from home seems a tall task for the Everton side, not an impossible task, but a tough one.
One other keeper who managers should be considering is Tottenham Hotspurs’ American goal keeper, Brad Friedel. While he may not have as many points in the overall table so far, his performances are reflecting that of his side, which at the moment has an
upward trend to it.
Our picks: All in all, managers are advised to look at the following shortlist of players for the goal keeper position.
1. Petr Cech – Queens Park Rangers versus Chelsea – 6.9-million
2. Michel Vorm – Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Swansea – 4.3-million
3. Brad Friedel – Blackburn Rovers versus Tottenham Hotspur – 5.5-million
Michel Vorm is by far the most consistent keeper when it comes to Fantasy Premier League points earned, however, Petr Cech has been solid since his return from injury and is looking to be back at his best.
Brad Friedel looks likely to keep a clean sheet as well, but our staff here at Bettor.com seem to be behind Cech to come away with more points this weekend.
