  1. no, you are mistaken. since during the ancient times, the main crops eaten on our everyday lives was produced by China, especially rice. it only happened that China today is so advanced that they forget that their agriculture is more important than these present technologies. the bad thing is that they are forcing local farmers to sell their land to the government. i have read an article in time about this issue. here i found the article and you may want to have a look

    in short, their land is really fertile but it is their government who is trying to make these fertile lands to be urbanize and left the agriculture business no room left.
