Is China conisidered a second world country?

Question

Since the u.s. is a industrial country or a first world country like England or Germany? Would China be a second world country because its not part of the G8 and China only became sucessful within in the past 15 to 10 years? Since China isn't really poor its not considered a third world country is it considered a first world country or a second world country?

In Astronomy stars used to be called First magnitude if they are brilliant and Second magnitude for less bright ones. They've graded till sixthe magnitude. Then the grading has become much finer. Some, which have exceeded 1st magnitude, jumped over '0' and have negative magnitude numbers allocated to them (Sirius: -1.42, Canopus: -0.72, Alpha Centauri:  -0.27, Arcturus: -0.06). Similar system must be adapted in geography too, to grade countries.

The classifications "First/Second/Third World" originated in the Cold War era:

First World: USA, Western Europe, and allies

Second World: USSR, Eastern Europe, and allies

Third World: Smaller, undeveloped or developing countries who played little or no role in the Cold War

After the end of the Cold War, these classifications have fallen out of favor, but China was at one time considered part of the Second World.

It would probably be more accurate to call China a developing nation or something like that than to try to classify it using this system.

China is still considered a third world country because, although china has the world's fastest growing economy and the cities often look like the cities of 1st world countries the countryside in china is generally extremely poor, often people in the countryside live in shacks. Even in the cities there are slums, its just that you don't see the poor parts of China because the government doesn't want you to see them.

Chine is an NIC (Newly Industrialised Country)

The top countries fly under the banner of:

MEDCs (More Economically Developed Countries e.g. USA, France, Britain)

Then it's:

NICs (e.g. China, India)

And lastly:

LEDCs (Less Economically Developed Countries e.g. Etheopia)

As a Chinese, I think no. China is big and development is hugely imbalanced.  Beijing and Shanghai may compete with HK or Singapore. But most rest places are great poverty even in third world.

China is a huge economy mainly beacuse of its huge population.

Big cities have been modernizing and reachin the level of "first world" economies, but it remain very poor areas and most of the population continues to live a level of life about at least ten times lower than most fully developped nations.

But if China continues to grow it will reach one day, maybe in one, two or three decades.
