Chinese science and technology led the world, fell in a heap under competing warlords and Western intrusion - but one wonders where it's going now in emulating much that climate change is driving the West to eventually abandon?

  1. Dictatorship of China is forcing its people to follow the obsolete path of material rat-race and it is going to prove another Waterloo as the path of coercive communism proved for Soviet debacle!

Politics is a real dirty game of power, I say.

  2. Good point...the West has certainly sets a good example, eh? NOT!

  3. During the period of colonism, the civilization of Japan and China were destroyed. Japan totally forsake their civilization and fully adopt the western civilization. China got more corrupt at that time and still mixing the old and western civilization.

Eventually, today's China is mostly western civilization including marxism. Most civilization of ancient time can only be found in some document in museums. Actually, there was a point when the Culture Revolution took place, Chinese was forced to forsake every ancient civilization. One good point of Western academy was to study whatsoever they like. Joseph Needham was researching in the Chinese University of Hong Kong and he documented the science and technology development in China. Then, after the cultural revolution, Chinese academies were also conduct research to recover their history. This was the beginning of Chinese-ism. Now, all western philosophy or ideas have to be matched with Chinese culture, before rooting into Chinese soil.

  4. This sounds a lot like a homework question...  As you might know there are many people in China.  In order for that society to become what it is and have survived for so many years, there is no question that Industrialization has definitely played a part.  In the study of Sociology you will find two types of foundations of societal existence .  One being an agricultural foundation, where the individual produces his own goods and provides for his/her family.  Secondly you will find the industrial foundation, where the individual works by playing part of a system in place to mass produce goods for a wage, in order to buy goods to support his/her own family.  The second creates what we know as consumers. Americans did not create the consumer, consumers are the product of an industrialized society. It is impossible to live in an industrialized society without having a consumerism lifestyle.  If you are trying to say that Chinese people are becoming more materialistic because of Western influence, and as a result they losing ancient traditions and customs, then yes I do agree with you.  Our Country definitely takes the cake when it comes to world influence.  And with current trends involving materialism, greed, and flamboyance, there is no doubt that other societies will take what is displayed by the Western giant as "ideal living" into consideration; and intern follow the trend or at least attempt.

If you dont find this answer to be what you are looking for, it might be because the question you are asking isnt very clear.  What climate change are you talking about?  Economical? social? what do you mean when you speak of emulation?  What is the West going to abandon?  Where you stoned when you wrote this question?

This is the question I think you where trying to ask before you try to all that gobbledy-**** in there.  Is China losing its ancient customs and values, as it aspires to live a Western materialistic lifestyle?

That will all be laid on the shoulders of the most important players in every society.  The teachers, parents, role models and others that play a hand in the moral crafting of all societies.  It will depend on the communication of UN-BIASED historical recollections.  It will have to do with the quality of individuals that fill these rolls.  Hopefully that answered a little bit of what you were trying to get at.

  5. Huh! Losing 'value' is all right but how about losing CIVILIZATION? Is that happened anywhere? (probably you meant TRADITION, right?)

  6. Don't be fooled. China is knocking off everything and everyone in the world. All you need to do is send a drawing and they will manufacture it for you at substandard specs, but cheap. Even if it's full of lead paint, formaldehyde, poor sewing quality, whatever. Everyone eats it up. Like their consumers won't notice. Sadly, most don't.  Blind cheap Wal-Mart sheep.

China will give up whatever it needs to to dominate the world. Including killing it's own people. Be it female infants or in war. They have no problem with losing a million military personnel if it furthers there plight in the world. China is a threat to all the nations. They care not for their own citizens so how much do you think they care about others? Not one iota. Not to mention the environment.

China wants to squelch the American economy and we are so stupid, we keep borrowing money from them. It's a weird dance we are in. A sick co-dependent relationship. It will come to a scary climax. Nothing good will come of it. Just my opinion.

  7. LOL

At the core of a Chinese soul is a capitalist.   The West has been most fortunate that China has chosen to shoot itself in the economic & intellectual foot by embracing Communism.

Seriously friend, what are these ancient values?   Abject poverty?

China has been, & may again be the center of the world's wealth & civilization if it can continue it's embrace of capitalism.

Especially since the West is now shooting that Socialistic gun at it's own foot.  Liberals whine for protection from the low prices at Wal Mart, when the object should be to out compete instead of hide.

Communist Chinese once destroyed their own grain crop by a massive sparrow killing campaign.  (They felt the birds were eating grain, when their diet was mostly insects.)

American Socialists have jacked up the price of Corn, Gas & Beer by forcing Oil Companies to buy grain alcohol.

So will China reject Western Consumerism?  As a Westerner I can only hope.  Perhaps we can export our Liberals to help them regain those communist roots.   It would be nice if the 'Useful Idiots' could be useful to us for a change.
