  1. same as what other people said. but also, soviet union and china are both communist so that makes them the insta-rival of US, i guess

  2. They've always been pretty good at diving and gymnastics, but I think they'll fade after a while. We're still going strong after decades.

  3. There are an aweful lot of parallels between them: huge political motivation to succeed in sport's, as a source of national pride. Brutal child training academies are/were found in both. Compelling evidence of state sponsored cheating can also be found for both, i.e. underage gymnasts with falsified passports- if you don't believe me google the evidence. I mean one of them was missing a tooth- so if you believe they're overage, can I interest you in some tooth fairy merchandise?

  4. ya probly

  5. nope its still russia, you know what their doing in georgia(the country)

  6. There's a rivalry for some times now.

Let China be China not the Soviet Union. There's no need for comparisons.

  7. It's going to be a power struggle between China and the U.S. for Olympics to come between gold medals and medals overall.  It'll be really interesting to see if one of the two can crack the other, or if a third country comes in and stirs up new competition.

Brazil hasn't ever been a big competitors in the Olympic Games.  After China and the U.S., Russia is still the biggest rival I'd say, and after that it's really a toss-up.  Australia and Germany are probably the two biggest after that, and maybe Great Britain in London 2012, perhaps even Japan if they can find their Athens 2004 form back again.

  8. I don't think so... China poured a lot of money into sports as part of it's quest to show off at their home Olympics, I don't think it will last... China have always been favourites in gymnastics and the like but they will drop away from the other sports

  9. they smile like them, thats for sure :P

  10. I think so. China is the new frontier. Look at the amount of medals they won. They have athletes in just about every category. Unless there is some political upheaval by 2012, look for them to again represent favorably.

  11. Yes

  12. ya i bet this rival will grow cuz both countries are extremely talented

  13. From this Olympic, it indicated China is a rival in a much broad sports where they got in Gold/Silver/Brown.  I am sure in the next London Olympic, they will advance into another level. Where USA, from this Olympic, I rather think it showed its narrowness sports they are strong in, like swimming, gymnastics, track&fields, etc.

I think that China will continue invest lot of $ in sports. I would hope that will make the future Olympic or world games more interesting the watch each year, not to make the sport games a enemy-a-like.

Here I have to say that I am very disappointed with NBC commentators' bias discussions and they are no help in promote the spirit of Olympics.
