I'm starting a commitment to eat healthier, and my family has decided to go to a Chinese resturant. What is something that I can eat that I won't feel too guilty about?

  1. Bravo to you for making a commitment to healthy eating. As a Chinese person eating Chinese food all my life, it never made anyone in my family heavy. In fact, all of us are a bit more towards the thin side. The reasons: low fat, steamed, not too much salt or soy sauce, rice instead of bread, NO DESSERT, and reasonable portions. This, of course, is easier to do at home. When you eat out at a Chinese restaurant, avoid eating foods with MSG (that is an ingredient which generally makes you hungry faster), ask the food to be prepared with low sodium, and select steamed foods instead of fried. You can order a steamed vegetable dish, or one with tofu, and then give yourself a scoop of one of the meat dishes if your family members order them -- i.e. portion it on a small plate, so you can be conscious of how much you are eating. Eat a small piece of fruit instead of dessert -- you won't feel deprived.  White rice is fine -- it has no flour, as someone else mentioned. But you might feel more satisfied eating brown rice or a mix of the two, because it has a slower transit time in the gut (takes longer to digest). It also tends to take the excess with it, so be prepared. If you don't normally eat rice, you might feel a little constipated or the opposite (need to "go" a couple more times than usual). The latter is actually ideal -- no need to keep the excess and store it as fat.

  2. im not tooo sure about healthy eating in a chinese resaurant because a lot of the food is fried.

  3. are you stupid or what . when was the last time you ever seen a fat over weight chinese person . enjoy , you`ll just be hungry again in about two hours.

  4. Don't feel guilty about eating anything, because food will do you good, not evil. What you can do to loose weight is eat little. There are some perfect Chinese salads which you'll love.

  5. Alot of Chinese restaraunts have a low fat option where they steam the chicken and meat, and serve the sauce on the side. Dont be afraid to ask if they can prepare something like that for you.

Another healthy choice is steamed dumplings...they are my favorites!

**Edit** Just an FYI, rice is a grain in itself, it does not contain flour! Brown rice has the outer coating still on it, while in white rice it is stripped off.

  6. I love Chinese food,  but you have to be careful of the high sodium content of it.

I try not to eat it but maybe once a month....it swells my ankles terribly.

  7. beef with broccoli

    steamed dumplings

  8. Tottally okay, get the brocoli stirfry with brown rice instead of white, because the flour in white is unhealthy, the sauce on the brocoli is really yummy.

  9. It is good

cuz it does not have any fats.......

  10. Rice or chow mien, just tell them to go easy on the soy and MSG. Both are high in sodium.

  11. Steamed vegetables with either shrimp or chicken.  Very low in calories and delicious.  Steamed dumpling are good too.

  12. Just stay away from the batter fried things and you'll be OK.

  13. rice and a tofu vegetable stir fry
