Is Chris Paul an overrated defender?

Question

He gets more steals than anybody and the impressive part about them is that he's stripping the ball away from guys 2wice his size. He has the desire but when I watch him he doesn't seem to alter jump shots of opposing players. But all Chris ever talks about in interviews right now is bout how the Hornets have to get better defensively so I'm sure he'll learn

I think a lot of people agree that steals are an overrated defensive stat.  Usually guys with a ton of steals overplay the passing lanes and gamble on defense.  When a player goes for a steal and gets beat, it usually results in an easy 2 pts for the other team.  Too bad their isn't a stat to recognize that.  Paul is a decent defender, but not outstanding. As a defender, I'd take DWill or Baron on D any day.

Chris Paul is definetly overated. All he can do is drive to the hoop. The best definsive point guard is steve nash.

Chris Paul is a great defender, but not a great 1 on 1 defender. He plays the passing lanes. Thats how he gets those 2+ steals a game.
