Is Christianity, specifically the CofE the official religion of the UK?

I realise the monarch is the head of both, and that bishops sit in the house of Lords and that Archbishops are apointed by the govt but does it say anywhere that the CofE is the official religion. Imean can rthe CofE be governed by the state but not the other way around. Mullah's and Rabi's sit in the house of lords, and when Charles becomes king he wants to become defender of all faiths. I realise this is made complectaed by the lack of any codyfied constitution. In case anyone is interested, I am an atheist.

  1. The CofE is the official state religion of England, Wales and NI. The CofS is the state religion of Scotland. This has become pretty much meaningless these days, and it's mostly kept out of convenience. Catholic regular churchgoers are expected to outnumber their CofE counterparts in a few years.

  2. The Church of England is a state church, and sometimes described as the Established Church.  This apples only to England, but the Church of Scotland is in a loosely similar position in Scotland.  There is no State church in Wales, although there are Anglican churches and bishops.  However, this does not make Anglicanism an 'official religion'.

The other churches, and other faiths, are not built into constitutional law, and effectively have voluntary status.  I hope, as many people do, that Charles will succeed in his wish to make the state more inclusive of other churches and other faiths.

  3. The UK is supposed to be a Christian country but the population prefer shopping and reading about Z listers.

That is why the Muslims are gaining an increasing hold and idiots like Charles want to be loved by everyone but also expects people to "revere" him.   Silly old fool.

CofE - Church of England should speak for itself.   Regrettably there are too many pc or g**s in charge.

  4. Christianity is a 'faith' not a religion - everything was fine until 'religions' got involved and tried to hijack Christianity - now look what a mess we have!

I am a Christian and I live as far as I am able by the 10 Commandments which seem a pretty good code for peace in the world and a code  which all individuals can follow without a religion - even you as an atheist.

I was brought up in a Roman Catholic Convent, Baptised in the Church of England [the Church in Wales and the Church in Scotland are the same but that's what they call themselves these days as it would be politically incorrect to have a Church of England in Wales or Scotland wouldn't it!]

I didn't like the way children from poor homes had to take money to school every week for the RC church and I didn't like the way my friends could sin one week and have their bad deeds forgiven by the priest the next and the punishment might have been 12 Our Fathers and 12 Hail Mary's.  I had to live with my sins and ask my God to forgive me and help me not to repeat what I might have done that was wrong!

Please refer to Wikipedia for the history of the Church of England and why our Head of State - The Queen is also the Fid Def. [Defender of the Faith]  HRH Prince Charles is doing his best to bring faiths together since we have, without being consulted, been turned into a multi-culti society in the UK.  The extreemists within the various religions will do their utmost to prevent the peace lovers from achieving harmony.
