I mean, even when I travel to third world countries you encounter mega churches with dico lights and microphones and the preachers scream for money, while the poor sods attending are giving their last sent to pay for salvation.

They are mainly American Churches. Isn't this immoral?

Go see what is happening in Nigeria!

  1. yeah... so save yourself by giving me all your money now

  2. Don't think for a minute that God doesn't know what is really motivating these churches, Him or how much money they can make off of Him. He will deal with them accordingly.

  3. Yeah just look at scientology - the man who invented scientology famously said if you want to get rich then invent a religion

Why are churches always asking for money?  what do they use this for?  why does the government give religions our money?  this isn't right

  4. I asked a similar question myself but the Yahoo sensors removed it. Best of luck

  5. So you are saving that poor people should NOT help anyone else?

    Then whom should?

    God love you!

  6. It is perfectly legal in most countries....

  7. lol... only the "true" Christians, right Mim...?

Yeah, it's a money making scheme. Having said that, there are some good churches (i.e. churches that care about people rather than money) but those are few and far between.

  8. I just read this article about mega-churches in Nigeria. Apparently, most of the people attending these churches are from other countries and are visiting for short retreats. If it's bringing foreign tourist capital into a very poor country, I don't think that's such a bad thing. The current financial needs of Nigeria would seem to outweigh the potential damage caused by mega-churches.

  9. too late. Already one. In fact they have been one for nearly 1500 years. Where have you been?

  10. the relationship between religion and business has been for centuries. if you want to know more watch the Al-jazeera's God's Business ( it's a documentary about religion and business)

  11. christianity is not  but some  so called christians  may be  making it seem that way,  it is not from Christ  but the evil of men.

  12. Wow, there are so many issues to address here.

    1. Churches do have operating expenses such as utilities, maintenance, and salaries (most pastors I've met live below the poverty line ... so no profit taking there).

    2.  You can't buy salvation.  Period.

    3.  Many churches use some of what they take in to help the needy, or pay for counseling services.

    4.  It takes money to fund outreaches because yes, we do believe that there are people needing to be saved, and there are missionaries who sacrifice a lot of modern conveniences in order to perform God's work.  But plane tickets and bus rides to remote areas are not free.

If my church, or any of the many churches I have attended appear to be using the money they take in on needless things, I say so.  And if it doesn't change, I leave ... and so do many others like me.

Mega Churches often have lower operating costs per parishioner due to economies of scale.  I hardly see how that is immoral.

Yes, there are churches who abuse the trust placed in them.  But from my experience I'd hardly say that's the norm.

  13. If this is true, please provide some evidence. IF this does prove to be true, you can bet I'll do whatever one Christian can to correct it...the trouble with me is, I don't know when to stop. I don't quit.

I just need to know if this is accurate.
