Is City Park a cool area to live in in Denver ?

20-somethings moving to Denver and don't know the area well. Trying to find a cool neighborhood to live in that doesn't break the bank...any suggestions? I have found a place across from City Park so I was wondering specifically about that.

  1. Hi...

Maybe try south of Colfax.  Capital Hill is always renting... and still fairly cheap.  I found a one bedroom for $625 in a nice building between Cheesman Park and the neighborhood King Soopers.

Most people are pretty young.  In the early evenings people are out and about walking their dogs or going to a local restaurant.  You can use the follow list as a resource... good luck!

  2. Tommy's right, City Park is "up and coming" as far as redevelopment but it isn't there yet on every street.

If you really want as close to an urban feel as you can get in Denver you may want to look at the Uptown neighborhood, Capital Hill, or Cheesman.  I had a buddy that lived in the Baker neighborhood South of downtown and liked it alright too.

Also, on my side of town their are Highland and West Highland neighborhoods which are again "up and coming" and filling up with 20 and 30 somethings.  You can find reasonable rent in any of the neighborhoods I just mentioned... but you can also find some pretty high rent places in most of them too.

Wikipedia Denver and you will find a map listing Denver neighborhoods.   That will let you picture these places and how they relate to downtown and lower downtown (LODO) where our bars and restaurants are located.  In my opinion though it's just as important to scout your potential neighborhood for at least one decent bar and a nearby grocery.  Most parts of the neighborhoods given should have both of these within a short walk.

Good luck with your search and don't mind the a-holes with the "Colorado: No Vacancy" bumper stickers.

  3. Yes, it's very cool!  Stay away from the north side of City Park though- the further north you go (toward I-25), the more ghetto it gets.  I don't know why someone said to avoid East City Park- it's very nice.  The Park Hill neighborhood is directly to the East- a nice, family-filled neighborhood.

West of the park is Uptown- a very cool neighborhood, more 20-somethings living there and more apartments available.  Plus, there are lots of great restaurants and it's close to downtown!  I would look there!

South of the park (across Colfax) is the Congress Park neighborhood- very lovely, lots of families.  Cheesman Park is nice too, but in my opinion, Capitol Hill is a little rough/ edgy.

    Hope that helps!

  4. there are alot of 20 somethings in that area BUT alot of crackheads too...depending on your street your either OK or in the ghetto..i almost took an apt on downing@18th street--it was nice, overall you should be good--very close to downtown too

you're better off on the west side of city park than on the east side of it--the west is the more up and coming area
