Is Colombia a safe place to go and is it cheap?

I have heard its a pritty phsyco place to go, but im interested in going there some day. I know there is alot of drug dealing there but would I be able to walk along the street without some kid coming up to me with a knife/gun and rolling me?

+ is there currency cheap?

Colombia is as safe as any other place you go. There are some areas that are not safe; just like here in the U.S. I was in Bogota for 7 days and then went to Catragena for 5 days and back to Bogota for 3 more days. I felt as safe there as I do at home. I live close to Houston and realize there are places i shouldn't go, especialy at night. You'll find that in most of the cities in Colombia there are cops everywhere. Don't wear a bunch of jewelry, flash your money, go to places where the gangs hang out and limit your night travel to the city.  Go to gov.org web site and they list a few pages of do's and don'ts when traveling abroad.  You'll also find that the people in colombia are some of the friendliest you'll ever met. I made what I think will be some life long friends in the short time I was there. Going back to Bogota in Febuary just to visit them. Good luck. Take a good camera; beautiful country.  P.S. Be very careful around the area of Cali.

colombia is the one of the dangerous place in world. if u go there within 1day u may looted or murdered.
