Is Colorado Springs a good place to vacation?

There's a lot to do in the area of Colorado Springs, but it has gotten so crowded and busy and commercial.  If you go there try to stay "out" a ways so you get the feel of Colorado.  We live in a Dallas suburb and one of my favorite vacation spots is the Rocky Mountain National Park.  If you're going to Colorado, please make a point to go there.  You won't be sorry.  There is so much to see and do in the park that you can easily spend the entire day. There are trails to take for short walks to see the wild flowers.  There are "picture spots" where you can climb up on the rock for a great view and a great pic as well.  There are some places where there is snow in July and adults as well as kids are throwing snowballs.There is a really tall "hill" with steps leading to the top (if you can make it) and it's so high you actually feel the temp difference & once when we went up it was sleeting up there while we were in short sleeves at the bottom.  Drive all the way to the top to the Tundra.  Amazing landscape & wind just howls. This is about 40 miles north of Denver.  Magnificent!!!

I think Colorado Springs is a great place for a vacation.  It's got natural attractions like Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods, and numerous hiking trails.  And, it's got a downtown with lots of restaurants and pubs.  The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a lot of fun for kids too.  

Another great thing about Colorado Springs is its central location within the state of Colorado.  Within a couple hours' drive, you could be in Rocky Mountain National Park to the north, Buena Vista and the Collegiate Peaks to the west, or Great Sand Dunes National Park to the southwest.  Makes for fun day trips allowing you to see several parts of Colorado.

There are also nearby cities like Manitou Springs and Woodland Park that have their own flavor and views of the mountains.
