  1. Although I agree with almost all of the above, I do have a couple of extra tips and disagreements though.

If you are not interested in snorkeling or scuba diving, you will still be able to find lots to do on the island (I've lived there for 20 years.. I know). Besides the Hato Caves and the Curacao Sea Aquarium, you will also find:

    - Ostrich Farm >largest outside of Africa, offers safari style tours of the facility and a great restaurant

    - Marco's Fishfarm> the name says it all

    - Christoffel Park >large national park with lots of hiking and biking trails, the christoffel mountain (tallest peak of the island) and much more

    - Parke Shete Boka >breath taking views of the North coast of the island, plus views from the coast from inside a cave, and also breeding grounds of various sea turtle spieces.

    - Kura Hulanda Museum> one of the best heritage museums around.

    - Maritiem Museum> naval history of Curacao

    - Also for the adventurous, Boat Trips, Kanoing, horseback riding, quad bikes, the blue cave at Black sand beach and helicopter trips.

Most everyone on the island speaks Dutch, Spanish, English and Papiamento (the local language), so communication is no issue.

  2. Curacao is one of the most quiet of the top 25 destinations in the Caribbean. It is known for nice beaches, the history and architecture of the capital city of Willemsted, and the fact that the island lies somewhat outside of the Caribbean hurricane belt.

It is part of the ABC islands of Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire. They tend to be a bit more popular during the Caribbean hurricane season, which runs summer through fall. There are no guarantees that they don't get hit, but they tend to see less impact than other destinations.

It really depends on what kind of vacation you want. If you want someplace quiet and relaxing where you spend a lot of time on the beach, then Curacao is a decent choice. Others on that list include Aruba and St. Kitts.

  3. I found Curacoa fascinating ... Willemsted looks like they transplanted Amsterdam onto an island in the Caribbean. The beaches are beautiful. The people were very friendly, and I had no difficulty communicating with them in English.

  4. I went to Curacao recently and it is one of the best places i have ever been.

It has tons of beaches that you can just drive around and snorkel at. (This island has some of the best sornkeling). Some beaches are free and some you have to pay for chairs. You can find tons of sea glass washed up on the beaches if your willing to look. Also their beaches are made of dead coral not sand, and though this may sound werid it is really amazing to look at.  Also about 200-250 yards out off the beach in the water, the bottom just drops striaght down so you can't see the bottom, but it makes great scuba diving.

There are a lot of things to do in Curacao. You can go to the Hato Caves, they are some of the best persevered caves you will ever find, with a guide and on the side of the caves there are indian markings. Also you can take a boat tour to Kelin Curacao, which is a small island off the coast of Curacao, that has again great snorkeling. You can also take guided tours of the island. They also have a very nice aqurium that has a lot of fish and good shows.

The restruant selction is ok. You will find your big chains, but also a lot of small indepentdent restruants that sell some of the best food you willl ever taste. You might have to go off the beaten path to find them though, but its worth it.

They don't have any grand restorts but the marriot is nice or you can rent a house. Also to help get yourself around the island i suggest renting a car.

If you dont like snorkeling or are not sucba cerifited or do nto plan on getting sucba cerifited while you are down there i would suggest not going. Curacao is highly based on sucba and snorkeling. Also many people speak dutch down there and not much else so if you speak another language be prepared to be in the minority.
