  1. Yes, Curlin is planning on the Preakness.  I think the smaller field of the Preakness will help Curlin, but it's hard to say how he'll do.  He had those monster wins which proved just to be because of the weak competition.  Now that he's lost a race, he could rebound back with an amazing race or he could have lost some confidence and not run the same.  And I think it depends on where they put him in the Preakness...  He was far off the lead in the Derby and he didn't have enough (despite his strong closing speed in that and all previous races) to come within 5 lengths of the winner...  that's why he lost...  it wasn't post position or getting boxed in or pulling up to wait for a hole to open...  he just didn't have enough to win.  I think Curlin is a better horse than some who are heading to the Preakness (Teuflesberg, Xchanger, Lukas's 2 horses[Starbase and Flying First Class]), but when it comes to that amazing speed of Hard Spun, and the amazingness that is Street Sense, Curlin still might not be enough to win.  I think the Preakness will come down to Street Sense or Hard Spun, although I think we could see a strong challenge by King of the Roxy...  he's my long(er)shot pick.  I'll decide for certain next week when I know who is definately running.  As for Curlin, he's your favorite, so keep rooting for him!  He's not my favorite, but he is a good horse.

edit:  I forgot about Chelokee...  he might knock Curlin out of the money.  you can keep up to date with Preakness news here: http://www.ntra.com/races.aspx?id=22774&...

  2. YES indeed---we got the word today--CURLIN IS IN!!

  3. As of today he is being aimed at the Preakness, I think he will trade spots with Hard Spun and finish 2nd.  The Derby top 3 are much better than anyone else that will show up next Saturday, the top 3 will be closer than in the Derby, but they will be much the best of the rest.  I think Hard Spun will suffer a little bit more on the lead in the Preakness since there should be much more cheap speed to go with him, even though he had some company in the Derby he did have things pretty much his own way.  I'm playing a strait Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun tri, big time.

EDIT:  Before the person "below me" blows her wad on the Preakness I hope she realises that the race is only a 16th (about 100 yards) of a mile shorter than the Derby and that it isn't a F'ing sprint.  Aside from the Derby, usually a horse won't ever go futhur than the Preakness on the dirt and the Belmont and Breeders Cup Classic are the only other races longer than the Preakness "Sprint".  Watch the Derby at the 16th pole was Street Sense there? yes, then why won't he be there this time.  (nothing is guarenteed, but don't bull **** the shitters)

Also for what its worth, the track has been playing pretty slow the last couple of days, I'm sure they will tighten it up a little bit before the big dance, but ya never know.

  4. in the Preakness there will be 14 horses max

                 hard spun

    curl in

                          street sense

    circular quey

&                  up to 10 more horses

  5. The post position draw is next week, but there will tentatively be a 10-horse field and Curlin should be racing. A lot can happen in the next week-plus, though he is being pointed to the race.

  6. that nag should be going to the soap factory after the derby

  7. According to Preakness web site a decision will be made by Thursday.  I'm sure he will run a good race since he hasn't run a bad one yet.  He may of only been third in the Derby but he had a little bad luck and it was only his fourth race so he didn't have the experience most of the others did.  Don't give up on him he is still a very nice horse.

  8. yes, I think they will run him...the Pimlico track is speed favoring and this race is shorter than the derby, so if Hard Spun works well over the track (meaning he takes to it) he will be tough to collar on or near the lead...Street Sense will have to work a trip out again or sit closer (which he should be able to do since he' came back good' from the derby and should also move forward off his third race of the year) I think Curlin has a shot at running in the money but I like the other two for the win...will still play all three in some trifecta/superfecta combinations with one or two of the newcomers in the second and third spots and most of the field in the fourth spot...I know youve been on Curlin for a few months now Melissa...good luck!

  9. he needed the derby...he had only 3 races...will be a much tighter horse next  time out. the top 3 derby horses are almost always likely to run in the preakness.

  10. Curlin is in as well as Street Sense, Hard Spun, and Sedgefield.  Other than those four, there won't be any other horses from the Derby.  Curlin will probably be the third choice as far as betting goes, which may be worth the value.  I think it's become obvious that Street Sense is going to be extremely tough to beat, and the connections of Hard Spun seem to be confident as well.  Curlin definitely had a nice showing in the Derby and showed a lot of maturity for his lack of experience.

As far as horses that did not run in the derby:  I would recommend taking a look at Flying First Class.  Although Curlin has owned him in the past, he too is a more mature horse.

  11. Curlin is definitely running in the Preakness and I would pick either he or Hard Spun to win it judging by the way the Derby played out.  Personally I favor Curlin because he's the Arkansas Derby winner but I wouldn't be disappointed if Hard Spun took this race.  The Preakness is an extremely short race in comparison to the Derby, a mile and 3/16 as opposed to a mile and a quarter.  Fast breaks from the gate and sprinters are typically favored.  Street Sense is a good horse and he nailed the Derby but if he runs the same sort of race he ran there in the Preakness he could be a disappointment.
