  1. The fruits of Custurd Apple, Annona squamosa are large fleshy berries with scales or projections on the outer surface. They are not multiple fruits because they develop from a single flower bearing many pistils (carpels). Such a fruit is called aggregate berry.

    Here an image showing a sliced fruit to demontrate:

  3. You are absolutely right it IS an  Etaerio of berries .

    Dictionary = Bot.  an aggregate cluster of fruit derived from a single flower.

    In Custard apple ( Annona squamosa , Family Annonaceae )

    The Gynoecium is Polycarpellary  Apocarpous ( i.e. There are many and independent carpels ) So there are as many ovaries as there are carpels ( Between 40 to 60 ).

    Each ovary develops in to a fruit.

    So there are as many fruits as there are ovaries . BUT THE FLOWER IS ONLY ONE .

    Such fruit is known as an Aggregate fruit .

    Etaerio is Latin expression of the same .

    Annonaceae Family has that as its basic character.

    Edit == It is again absolutely correct when one says " They are not Multiple fruits "  They are  NOT multiple fruits.

    A Multiple or Composite  fruit is the one that develops from an entire INFLORESCENCE  ( Collection of flowers )

    Pineapple is an excellent example of Composite or Multiple fruit . Annona squamosa fruit develops from a SINGLE flower.

    Etaerio = Aggregate = Etaerio .
