  1. Hi, Cyprus changed to the Euro 1st Jan 2009, that is the southern side of Cyprus. The cost has gone up slightly, but if you shop at the supermarkets, everything is a lot cheaper. Especially if you can get to the larger supermarkets, like Ophamedes or Zenith. Beer and wine is a lot cheaper in the supermarkets.and it's just like shopping in UK, they have a large variety of food, wines, beers. I will be in Cyprus in September and i cant wait. Oh forgot to say if you drive take your driving license, driving in Cyprus is great, they drive on the same side of the road as us in UK.

  2. Euro and prices are very similar to the UK

  3. Absolutely agree that the Turkish Lira exchange rate make a holiday in North Cyprus incredibly good value at the moment. Prices are also around a third cheaper than in the south for almost everything, especially eating out in restaurants. Base yourself in Kyrenia and you can enjoy a historic town that's utterly charming, yet still be near some stunning beaches. Take a look at any of the sites listed below for more information on North Cyprus - a great place for a holiday in the Cyprus sunshine.

South Cyprus prices have increased since the changeover from Cypriot pounds to Euros, so it's not the bargain it used to be, even with the new cheap flights from easyjet, etc. For cheap car rental in south Cyprus, try cyprus-car.com

  4. Southern Cyprus (the Greek Cypriot part of the island) uses the Euro (it joined the euro-zone at the start of this year), but North Cyprus uses the Turkish Lira.

Because the euro's very strong at the moment against the pound, Greek Cyprus is not as cheap as it used to be, but it's still better value than other euro-zone destinations.

However, Northern Cyprus is very good value, as the pound is still holding its value against the Turkish lira.

If you do decide on Northern Cyprus, it's a good idea to take most of your cash in pounds; you'll get a much better exchange rate for lira once you're there. And if you're taking a taxi from Larnaca, your driver will be happy to be paid in pounds.

As an idea of Northern Cyprus prices, you can eat out very well (3 courses) for around £15 a head.

Hope that helps -- add a note to your question if there's something particular you'd like to know.

    :-)
