Is DEET a safe chemical?

I bought an insect repellent with only 5% DEET that is marketed for children, but I read the warnings on the back and it sounds kind of SUPER DANGEROUS AND TOXIC!!! I know that DEET is recommended by many doctors because mosquitos can spread disease, but seriously, is it ok to put this on my 1 year old and 2 1/2 year old kids?? are there any studies on the toxicology of DEET?

  1. deet is really bad for peole if

so its better to use all natural bug reppelent wich all of times works better

  2. I agree with the guy who said to put it on their clothes instead of their skin, this will minimize their exposure to the chemical

  3. No, it is not OK.  DEET should only be put on the clothing of children...not on the skin.  There are LOTS of studies that back this up.

Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus has been PROVEN to be as effective as DEET.  It is available in many insect repellent sprays and lotions now.  Start with a tiny test amount, though.  My nephew proved to be highly allergic to it.

  4. my daughter has been hypersensitive to bug bites since she was an infant...our pediatrician recommended a deet repellent for her.  we only put a little on her skin,,,and more so on her clothing,,,and they said to be sure to bathe her after an outing to remove it from her skin.  she is now 11 and i still use a HIGH deet spray and she knows to shower after coming in.
