I have Direct TV, but am not so happy with some of it. Does anyone have insite as to whether DISH is better? I currently have to DVR's with two receivers on each. I don't want to loose that part.

  1. Dish is cheaper, but I think DirecTV has more HD channels.

We went with Dish.  Cheaper than Comcast.

  2. I think Dish Network is cheaper, and I've had them in the past and they were fantastic.  I'm switching back to them this month since our cable rates are through the roof.  You can get a DVR with them, yes.  Each receiver covers two TVs, and if you have four TVs, I imagine you could get two DVRs.

  3. If you don't care about HD then they're about the same with the exception of DirectTV's exclusive rights to NFL ticket.

If you DO care about HD, or plan on getting it in the future, you would be doing yourself a disservice by switching.  DirectTV has like 3 times more HD channels than DISH.

  4. I am a Dish Network user.

TIP (for Dish or DirectTV): Buy your receivers outright so you are not stuck in a contract.

I bought my own DVR's and receivers and hooked up service and I can cancel whenever I feel like I am not bound in a 2 year contract. If I cancel I keep my equipment also and don't have to send it back "or else"

I bought mine from eBay but BUYER BEWARE because some of those people might not have paid their bill so if you bought a reveicer that has a balance you will have to pay the balance on their Dish Card before you are able to activate it.

If buying from eBay ALWAYS look for a R00 (reveiver number) and an S00 (Card number) in the auction, jot it down and call Dish to find out if there is a balance.
