A DTV converter box is like a tuner.  You need to connect it to a good antenna.  The converter boxes are for Over The Air use only.  Visit http://www.antnnaweb.org and put in your ZIP code for guidance on antennas and where to aim them.

Do not connect it to cable.  Cable and Over The Air use two different systems and the converter boxes will not work for cable.
