If Darwin's theory is correct that we evolved from apes then why are there still apes?why did'nt they evolve too.If I took a watch apart and put it in a tumbler for 1 million years would it evolve back to a watch?or better a hi tech time piece?

  1. Darwin's theory isn't exactly correct, the science of evolution has progressed since his work.  But he had the right idea.

Humans are apes.  And other species of apes are still evolving, as are we.

I'm not responding to your watchmaker argument.

  2. Yes, Iam Agree with you, if Darrwin's theory is true, The apes already can make a fire from stone now, at least they can make a cave for their home by learning from wolf or others.

  3. The evidence for evolution is overwhelming and it's accepted by all biologists, and most educated people.

    We ARE apes.

Why wouldn't there still be other apes? If you understood evolution AT ALL you wouldn't ask.

Evolution doesn't say that one day a bunch of pre-human apes turned into humans. That's not how it works.

    A watch is a man-made thing.

We are not. (Nor are microbes, ferns, or any other living thing.)

IF you were willing to understand evolution, you could -- there are a lot of good books that explain it clearly.

    Here are two websites:

  4. It's not only incorrect it's downright libelous

  5. icabod !

    what he says !!!

  6. That is correct, the problem is that people have misunderstood this principle since Darwin taught about this principle or idea.

We did not come from monkeys like many people say, but we were created by divine hands. Darwin said that every animal including humans suffer transformation on their bodies to improve or protect the body against  something. That is really true.

Some insects like cockroach and mouses that could not live in cold places, now can be seen in cold places closed to mountains, off course there are so many, but in some way they can survive. eg: England

First humans could not live with the presence of diseases, that were spread for long years, but thanks to advanced medicine and technology they have protection against diseases eg: spanish flu.  But those things would not be enough if our body would not suffer mutations as well. Evolution is necessary for our body to get protection and improve our body shape. Every actions that we make in pro of our body, we are helping our body to develop and creat resistance against deseases, That was the thing that Darwin was tryng to tell us, but unfortunatelly many people misunderstood his theory and took his ideas as herege.

  7. Darwin's theory is correct.

There are still apes because they are, and were, well suited for the environment they are in.  Natural Selection states that the best members of a species for their niche will have a reproductive edge, and thus spread their traits.  With Apes, that lived in the same environment, they were already pretty well suited, and did not to evolve.  For those in environments that changed, a different traits were better suited, so they were passed on more.  When that happens alot, a new species, like man, comes about.

As for your watch.  It's not changing in the safe, and has no way of doing so, so it's not going to change.  Life on the other hand, changes all the time to environmental pressures.

  8. Darwin's theory is partly correct, we evolved from the crossing of genes from ape and an alien life form. While it sounds bizarre it could be highly possible.  thinking outside the norm. What if Adam and Eve were alien, and they were the first Humans on earth.  What if they were the last of a dying race of beings that escape from a decaying planet. 30 years ago it would have been insane statement to make but now with gene research anything is possible. I mean growing an ear on the back of a mouse, how insane is that, but it has been done.  40 years ago mixed marriages (inter race)  were taboo and couples were treated as outcasts. If it meant the only way to save our race was to cross species we would most likely do it.  But hey, this is only thinking outside the norm.

  9. Where are you getting your information, the source is suspect.  We did not evolve from apes, and evolution is not a random process (in other words, it's not like putting a watch in a box and shaking the box, or running a tornado through a field with 747 parts, or a million monkies typing on typewriters, or any of the numerous strawmen constantly being pummeled)...

  10. we didn't actually evolve from apes that we know today we evolved from a common ancestor, so some evolved to be humans and others became apes

  11. Sigh

OK the word "theory." In science it means "explanation." NOT a guess!

Example. It's just after Spring break. You friend told you he was going to Mexico over the break. Plus, he intended to get some sun. He called you from Mexico. When you see him, he's complaining about his sunburn and he's very red. He also gives you trinkets from Mexico. You also see his canceled plant ticket and passport with Mexican entry and exit stamps

Your "Theory/ Explanation" is he went to Mexico. Got some sun and came back. It fits all the facts you have collected.

Now from the back row comes the cry: " IT'S ONLY A THEORY!!!!" They then tell you how it's possible a big magnifying glass focused on him during the hours of sunlight we had last week. (big, big glass) That it's possible aliens visited him in the night and implanted false memories. That the passport and canceled tickets were really used by someone with the same name and looks just like him. In short that there's all these problems with your explanation and " IT'S ONLY A THEORY!!!!"

As the noise dies away you ask what their explanation of all this is? You're told a supernatural being accomplished all this. Where he came from, what's going on, what this being looks like? You're handed a track and told to have faith and believe.

Creationists spend all their time picking on evolutionary explanation.(see how much things change with that word?) They never explain their theories (what are there 5 or so?) In fact, they never give any real evidence for their theories (" IT'S ONLY A THEORY!!!!" )

The basic tenets of evolution were developed 150 years ago. For all the whoops and cries of " IT'S ONLY A THEORY!!!!"  None of these tenets have been overturned. Ask the creationists what they'd do is one of their theory's building blocks was found to be wrong.

  12. Species evolve according the selection pressures of their niche.  Each niche has its own selection.  All animals don't evolve in any particular direction but it is dependent on what ever characteristics make them most suitable for their lifestyle.  There were several species of apes. It would be ignorant of the most basic level of biology to suggest that all apes should evolve to become more humanlike.  The theory doesn't suggest it.

  13. If Darwins theory was correct it it would not be a theory, It would be a fact, and there are no facts when it comes to evolution. Most people can believe that evolution takes place, but only within the life of any given species. It cannot change a princess into a frog, that is for authors of fairy stories.

  14. To put it very simply, NO his theory is not correct.

  15. Evolution has been demonstrated through selective breeding, deep ocean core samples, fossils and the known history of life on the planet. That's just a few of the sources.

If you search the posts to "Why are there still apes, you'll see that question is posted on average, once a week. It seems either people aren't reading the replies or are shopping for different answers. To answer it: When you shop and buy the latest fashions, Why are there still old clothes in your closet?

The watch in pieces is new. After only a few decades they're be dust from banging into each other. The thing about evolution is it is gradual changes over long periods of time. Return to the cloths comparisons. The styles in 2008 are slightly different from 2007 and a bit more different from 2006. Take it back to 1958 and there's a huge difference. compared to 2008. That's evolution, slight changes over long periods of time. It also answers the bleat of the creationists when they demand "transitional fossils."

The best site to learn about evolution is:

National Academy of Sciences: (Guidebook on Evolution)

    http://www.nap.edu/readingroom/books/evo...

    To quote from this source:

"Evolution in the broadest sense explains that what we see today is different from what existed in the past. Galaxies, stars, the solar system, and earth have changed through time, and so has life on earth.

Biological evolution concerns changes in living things during the history of life on earth. It explains that living things share common ancestors. Over time, evolutionary change gives rise to new species. Darwin called this process "descent with modification," and it remains a good definition of biological evolution today."

"Is evolution a fact or a theory?

The theory of evolution explains how life on earth has changed. In scientific terms, "theory" does not mean "guess" or "hunch" as it does in everyday usage. Scientific theories are explanations of natural phenomena built up logically from testable observations and hypotheses. Biological evolution is the best scientific explanation we have for the enormous range of observations about the living world.

Scientists most often use the word "fact" to describe an observation. But scientists can also use fact to mean something that has been tested or observed so many times that there is no longer a compelling reason to keep testing or looking for examples. The occurrence of evolution in this sense is a fact. Scientists no longer question whether descent with modification occurred because the evidence supporting the idea is so strong.

Why isn't evolution called a law?

Laws are generalizations that describe phenomena, whereas theories explain phenomena. For example, the laws of thermodynamics describe what will happen under certain circumstances; thermodynamics theories explain why these events occur.

Laws, like facts and theories, can change with better data. But theories do not develop into laws with the accumulation of evidence. Rather, theories are the goal of science."

A common comment is that man "descended from the apes." Consider:

"If humans evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

Humans did not evolve from modern apes, but humans and modern apes shared a common ancestor, a species that no longer exists. Because we shared a recent common ancestor with chimpanzees and gorillas, we have many anatomical, genetic, biochemical, and even behavioral similarities with the African great apes. We are less similar to the Asian apes—orangutans and gibbons—and even less similar to monkeys, because we shared common ancestors with these groups in the more distant past.

Evolution is a branching or splitting process in which populations split off from one another and gradually become different. As the two groups become isolated from each other, they stop sharing genes, and eventually genetic differences increase until members of the groups can no longer interbreed. At this point, they have become separate species. Through time, these two species might give rise to new species, and so on through millennia."
