Is David De Gea the young blood that Arsenal's struggling goal keeping needs?
Arsenal are quite easily one of the best football teams in the world. The team has almost always been one of the most challenging and threatening sides to face and that is mostly due to their brilliant attack and midfield. Some might even argue that they
have the best midfield out there, but that may be stretching it a bit.
However, despite being as good as they are, the team has failed to win any silverware over the course of last five years. That is something that should not be acceptable for the club or anyone who plays for the team. On closer inspection, the source of the
problem can be traced back to the goal posts. Arsenal are currently suffering from a severe case of terrible goal keepers.
The team, at the moment, has Manuel Almunia as their first choice keeper and that says a lot about the team. Almunia is quite possibly one of the worst keepers in the league at present and the fact that he is still Arsenal’s first choice is rather baffling.
The rather stubborn manager of the team, Arsene Wenger has finally accepted that it is time for a change of keepers and he has been looking at the market for potential buys over the last couple of weeks. The player that the manager now seems to have targeted
is Atletico Madrid’s teenage sensation, David De Gea.
De Gea has been in sublime form ever since making his breakthrough and joining Atletico's first team. The keeper has been performing as though he is a seasoned professional. He has shown maturity that would seem rather impossible for someone else of his
age to display. He has a keen eye to spotting what the opposition's attackers are going to do and doesn’t hesitate before pouncing onto a loose ball, or going into an aerial battle.
He has also been linked to a number of other top European teams, such as Manchester United. This means that Arsenal will be facing some rather amazing competition if they hope to sign the player.
David De Gea will probably cost the team in the region of ten million pounds, which shouldn’t be too much for them, considering the team has already made a profit in last fiscal year.
If the player does wish to grow personally, then it is safe to say that he would make the leap to the Emirates without hesitating. However, it will be down to Atletico to decide if they want to let go of a player who would by all means be one of the best
keepers to ever come out of the club. The player is only nineteen which means that he still has at least a decade of game inside him.
