I have never heard much about this guy and I don't think he has a chance at all to beat Manny Pacquiao (I'm not a Manny fan) but what do you think of David Diaz is he a joke champion?

  1. HA-HA-HA

  2. David Diaz is anything BUT a joke champion.  True, the circumstances of how he was given the belt isn't the "tried and true" method of beating the champion. . . .it involved lots of politics and Jose Sulaiman maneuvering.

But since he's been WBC Lightweight champion, he's defended it with dignity and authority. . . .even RETIRING Erik Morales. . . .who was pretty much on the way out anyway, but if you saw the fight, Diaz was taking it to him like nobody's business.

I see a real barnburner of a fight with this one. . . and I'm still kinda on the fence.  Pacman is a better boxer, but Diaz is stronger. . . and Manny may have bitten off more than he can chew on this one!

  3. I'm not a PacMan fan either, I think he's a touch over-rated. I've watched a few of his fights and he drops his guard A LOT when he throws his jabs. I would have thought any decent boxer would have spotted and exploited that?

Saying that I've not seen David Diaz fight...

  4. TO MARK!!

Casamayor lost to Santa Cruz if you watched that FIGHT!!

he isn't much of a champ. everyone in New York was booing those judges

  5. He is the real deal.  He is not the best Diaz (That would be Juan Diaz who recently lost to Campbell), but he is a very good fighter.

His problem is, he is in a very strong division that has about a half dozen or so fighters as good or better than he is.

Unfortunately, PacMan is much better than he is.  Manny wins this fight rather easily.

  6. I know is a real boxer but I don't know about joke champion,

Juan Diaz beat him few years back. But I really think paquiao is too much for D. Diaz

  7. I think this will be a small test for manny, it may turn out not as easy for him if they under estimate him. Diaz isn't a great fighter or anything like that but he is big, he won't run he will be there to fight & is a south paw. Manny last south paw was in 2004 at 122 lbs against a small 3K Battery.

Manny may bring more power with him or he may loose a little so its a smart move because he isn't jumping in with a huge threat but I think they cannot under estimate this guy. We need to pay attention to this fight & look at how much effect will Manny's punches have, even if he ko's him which I don't think will happen we will be able to see how much success he will have. Also how Diaz punches effect Manny.

  8. Well, if you're asking if he is the true lightweight champion of the world- no he is not, because he has a tainted title that was stripped of the true champion Joel Casamayor for no good reason.  He won the "interim" title by knocking out Jose Armando Santa Cruz in a fight that he was losing badly, and he never faced Casamayor.  So, the WBC stripped Casamayor for no reason because he never said that he wouldn't face Diaz, but they stripped him because they wanted to give Erik Morales an easy title shot against Diaz (that didn't work out becuase Diaz beat Morales).  Diaz is a decent fighter, and he holds a paper world title, but he is not the true champion- Casamayor is the true, linear, and Ring Magazine lightweight champion of the world.  As far as his fight with Pacquiao- I favor Pacman by unanimous decision.  The fights that I look at to determine my prediction are their respective bouts with Erik Morales: Pacquiao knocked him out twice in brutal fashion, but Diaz struggled like h**l and barely beat him.  And Diaz fought him AFTER Pacquiao went through him, so Morales should have been "easy pickings."  I do think that Diaz will manage to go the distance because he is a tough dude with a lot of heart, but I just think that Manny is the overall better fighter in almost every aspect and thats why I think that he will beat Diaz in June.  Manny will then have another world title in a different weight class, but he won't be the real champ at 135 until he beats Casamayor.

Edit: TO SOCIAL MANOLO: Robberies have been a part of boxing for as long as it has been a sport.  I did watch that fight and I agree that Santa Cruz got robbed against Casamayor, but its not Joel's fault that the judges were blind- he got the decision, therefore logically he is still the champion because he has not lost since then, and he defended his title against Michael Katsidis.  When Jersey Joe Walcott was robbed of the heavyweight title in his first fight with Joe Louis, did they strip Louis of the title, just because Walcott deserved to win?  No, they didn't because Louis got the decision- Walcott was robbed, but you have to BEAT the champion in order to BE the champion, regardless of controversy, because lets face it- there will ALWAYS be controversy in boxing.  Casamayor is the rightful champion until someone beats him in the ring.
