Is Democracy Dead?

Democracy begins with freedom of choice and popular opinions, views, and the overwhelming will of the people. It dies with morbidly obese government beauracracies and endless lines of redtape, laws, and regulation, with each toothpick removing a liberty from the people. Now before you answer this question, do not attack any of the popular views we are discussing here. It is out of the scope of this question. We are only dealing with the issue, and the popular opinion, whether you like it or not...

1. The people voted against g*y marriage... A small panel of judges at the supreme court deemed that ban unconstitutional and overturned a majority opinion of MILLIONS of americans.

2. California has enacted title 24 which forces homes to use a specific light bulb to save energy and minimize environmental impact. It is illegal for me to put a normal bulb in my own home? Irony? The mercury in the "e-safe" bulb creates twice the environmental impact if not properly disposed of...

  1. We are a representative republic. De Tocqueville said that America was finished once it realized it could vote itself monies. Ta Da!!!!!

  2. I agree mostly with what you said, but I will start with your question:  "Is Democracy Dead?" I guess it depends upon your definition of "democracy". If you use the word as defined, then, no, it is not dead, because it never existed, exept as a theory. "Democracy" comes from 2 Greek words meaning "people rule". The Greeks are often accredited with "inventing" democracy, but 30% of their population were slaves; women and children HAD NO RIGHTS AT ALL!  The U.S. was set up as a "representative government" (also called a "republican government") wherein people choose folks to represent them BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT.

Other than that nitpicking, I agree with you fully. I might add that abortion was disapproved by the majority of Americans at the time, even though some claim now that the majority approve of abortions. Without involving religion or morals or decency, a person is a fool to have an operation at any time for any reason that is not necessary, as operations are one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. (I am referring to operations by "qualified" doctors in hospitals! IAW CBS TV news, the number 1, 2, and 3 leading causes of death all are due to medical errors and neglect!)

I never did like flourescent lights; they emit much the same kinds of ultraviolet light as the sun, causing headaches, eyestrain, etc. The CFLs seem to get around much of these problems, but, as you point out, contain mercury, one of the most poisonous substances know to mankind.

As to "g*y marriage", first of all, "g*y" is a synonym to "happy" and "joy". They should call it what it is: homosexuality (or sexual perversion). One famous scientist, who supports them by the way, claims that it is a "disease" because they are "not natural" and "incapable of precreation". But, TV shows, movies, magazines, as well as the Liberal Supreme Court try to cram homosexuality (and promiscuity) down our throats. They know that if they keep it up long enough, people will eventually weary of it and just give up.

So, has our government become too big, too bossy, too much like a dictatorship or communist/facist/n**i state?

Yes. Most of our rights were taken away long ago.

People used to be able to leave their doors unlocked (heck, many doors did NOT HAVE LOCKS), used to be able to live on the income of the dad, used to be able to take a walk in the evening, etc., etc., etc.

They think we old people "are just loosing it" because we "are nostalgic about the past" but thinks were so much better then than now.

  3. A Democracy is a government by the majority.

The majority has been brainwashed by the corporate-controlled media to to stupid things.

  4. Thanks for remembering the democracy..

it is a great subject.  i have no knowledge to answer in detail..

but, i know the real democracy is not in the world.

but, i know many many persons are leading a luxury life in the name of democracy...

but, i know many many persons are from rich to more rich..

but, i know many many poor are made poorest..  it is democracy.

sir, please sir..  i hate the word ''democracy'',  though it is very good word and needed to the world but it is in the hands of bad.

  5. It is in the United States.

With 40,000 companines leaving the United states over the last 2 years, and just this year we have lost 500,000 jobs.

Ford, and GM have closed more plants in the US over the last 8 years, and opened plants in other countries. With this being said only as a starting point you need to check your facts.

Nafta and Free Trade are of a huge concern to the people of the United States. Largely because China, Japan, and Mexico and Inda have received large contracts from American companies for products that where produced in the US. This was a move made by corporation pushed by lobbyist to reduce labor cost for companies therefore increasing profits, and OUR Government helped facilitate this with lack of forethough and inapt ability to face reality and stand up to money thats moving our Government today and foresee the consequences to the United States. Fisher Price is one company that led the way, 21,000 manufacturing and office employees lost there job do to that one move, that is including the three suppliers that went out of business do to there moving. Do you think that Ford motors is building a new plant in Mexico (3 BIL)because there buying all the cars, no it's because they can hire workers there for 4.50 a day and increase profit. NAFTA allows them to return there product here at a fraction of the taxes and duty. There for the companies are growing in size and in profits however the labor market is shrinking here.

This in not our only problem in the United States however it has contributed in a large way.

You can add that housing problem is do to lack of MORALS and low life people pushing bad loans, that they know people couldn't repay or afford. I don't think Government should regulate every think, however they should have seen as I saw anything that is growing at a rate that market was, something was wrong. Furthermore, the amount of ARMS being sold in the mortgage industry over a 8 year time span grew 300 fold. Where was the oversight on that mess.

Futher on this We, our Government is also taking work from us. We contracted a few Navy ships to be in another country. We buy or militarys rifles from Briton, our bullets come from Japan, Mexico, and Inda. Our F16 electronics are produced in Japan. OUR, Great United Stated FLAGS our contracted to China, and Japan.

Our Government has really lead us down the wrong path and it will take new leaders and new thinking to bring us back to prosperity. I knew in the 1970s that oil was a big problem, but they did nothing to move away from it. Our political arena has become self serving and up for sale for a long time and it must stop. We have sold are selling or will sell most of the United States companies, and now we're tring to sell (Lease) some of its infrastructure to others. Detroit tunnel, a bride in another state, whats next the STATE it self.

Really I could go on but if you don't see it by now you will never understand it. However this is only a small part of what I have been watching and looking into over the last 6 years.
