Question:

Is Denon a good choice for a home theater amp?

I'm buying it to replace my 2 year old Insginia amp, whose right surround channel was blown out after a power surge!!! I found one over at the Best Buy's Magnolia Home Theater section for around $350, which supports up to 7.1 channels of surround sound and supports HDMI to the PS3.

  1. Denon is excellent and will be a huge step up from Insignia (which is, more or less, a cheap store brand).

    Other brands to entertain:

    Yamaha

    Onkyo

    Harman/Kardon

    Marantz

Sony ES (not to be confused with regular Sony)

Pioneer ELITE (not to be confused with regular Pioneer)

I, personally, like Sony ES (Elevated Standard) because they have excellent performance and are one of the few to have a standard 5 years parts and labor warranty for their products. But, you may have to go to a specialty Hi-Fi store or check out Crutchfield, Tweeter, or a Sony Store as I don't think Sony ES is available at Best Buy's Magnolia department.

  2. Denon is a very excellent brand, we own a Denon receiver and Bose surround sound speakers, and they sound AWESOME. I would recommend listening to what the workers in the Magnolia Home Theater section have to say about the receivers and speakers, because they really know what they're talking about.

  3. Denon and Yamaha are both great brands. I have Yamaha, but I would be happy to have a Denon unit in my rack anytime.

  4. Denon is an excellent choice for an amp.
