Question:

Is Disney World worth the extra cost?

We have 3 children and my wife wants us to take them to a disney resort. I think Disney World would be better but the prices are coming up as a minimum of £10k for a week or Disney land would cost only £2k for the week. Is Disney world that much better, has anybody been to both?

  1. ABSOLUTELY!!  I live near Disney World, and we have been pass holders for the pass 14 years.  I've been to both Disney Land and World, and I can tell you with out any hesitation that Disney World is significantly better than Disney Land.

We were able to see all of Disney Land in a couple of days, but Disney World could take you weeks to get through all of the parks and surrounding Disney attractions.

If it's any indication of how much fun the Disney World resort is, my children (now 13 and 15) still enjoy going and spending days at the parks.  There is something for every age (including adults).

I feel confident saying, you will create life-long memories.

  2. i have been to both neither of them are great in my opinion but they are technically the same i prefer Ceader Point in Ohio

  3. no Disney sucks big time. Go anywhere else. Go to Idaho instead or crappy North Carolina, anywhere, but don't go to Disney. Go to Busch Gardens.

  4. I've been to both and Disney World IS that much better (but see below)!  It has 4 theme parks, vs 1.5 in California.  See this site for lots of Disney World advice: http://yourfirstvisit.net/planning-your-...

The qualifier is whether you want to be a tourist as well as go to a park.  Southern California is much more interesting as a tourist destination than Florida.

You could be done with DL in 3 days, with the rest of your time available for touring; however, WDW takes at least 6 full days--and I actually recommend 9 to give you adequate breaks, pool time etc.

    Hope this helps!! Dave

PS Most questions like this are posted in the "Orlando" forum--even ones asking about DL vs WDW--so if you wish more perspectives, you may want to check there!

  5. Are you sure about that price?  Disneyworld which hotel and how are you flying I would have thought more like £4000 if that for only a week plus where are you travelling from

  6. Disney World is much better, but the way i look at it, stay in a hotel that is close to Disney and has a shuttle that will take you to the parks. Don't stay in a resort, they are over priced and al you really do there is sleep anyway, right? This should bring your cost down

  7. I have been to both and Dineyland isnt even a PATCH of DisneyWorld. Its not nearly as big, the weather isnt as nice, and its just not the same. Either save up for a bit and take them to DisneyWrold or look into doing it on the cheap. There are budget hotels which are really good and worth looking into. Goodluck

EDIT: What dates do you want to go??

EDIT: I dont know if this helps, but i went onto FirstChoice holidays and looked into booking a trip for 2 adults and 2 children and an infant (under2) for one week in DisneyWorld Florida staying at Disney's Pop Century resort (located in Epcot). The holiday flies on 24th July 2008, from Gatwick airport. The total price, for EVERYONE was £2861.26....nowhere near the 10k you expected! This doesnt include park tickets however but at this website:

    http://www.greatorlandodiscounts.com/dis...

You can get 5 day adult tickets for $250 and children ones for $217....thats $1250 for your family for 5 days...which is only about £700......bringing your whole holiday, disney tickets included to £3561.....FAR CHEAPER than you expected. It really doesnt cost 10k to go!

  8. Wow. Stay at Disney land for 5 weeks, then.

  9. That's too expensive. thank God i've got no children.

  10. oh my god £10K! Tell your wife to get a grip, but the extra £8k towards your childrens education and enjoy Disneyland... man alive! £10K for a PARK!
