  1. When I use your link I find that the majority of "available" E-85 sites are located at military bases and other inaccessible locations.  It seems as though E-85 stations are rare, very rare.  In most cases people will have to conclude that E-85 is not available, or practical.  Hopefully in the future we can derive ethanol more efficently from cellulose and other non-food products and make E-85 a more viable alternative.

  2. With only six locations in the state of Washington and most on military reservations and all over 100 miles from where I am located it doesn't look good.

I really get a kick out of GM touting their Ethanol ready vehicles which would be great IF you could get the stuff.

I guess I counter the added pollution I contribute by using gasoline by driving less and less...for now till a genuine alternative is found.

  3. I live in Sweden and E85 is the most used renewable fuel here. Most large stations has E85 and yes, I use it whenever it's available. At the moment it's the best option available here.

  4. Im in the UK and we don't have it, yet!

  5. yes we do too.

    it's actually cheaper than gasoline.

but contrary to what people have written, it isn't a good replacement for gasoline.

you get reduced gas mileage. which means you have to burn more, and pollute more, to go the same distance as gasoline.

methanol (not ethanol) is used in  some drag racing classes.

ethonal has apperantly taken the place of methonal in indy cars- which makes sense.

it contains more btu's per pound AND it has a higher octane rating. both traits are desireable in a racing fuel.

when the motor is DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY for alcohol use and mpg is NOT a great concern, it has advantages.

neither of these goals are design criteria for production automobiles.

    edit: ms,

i stand corrected. i didn't realize that they had switched. i updated my response.

i am man enough to admit my errors. are you?

are you willing to admit gasoline is a superior fuel for production automobiles, based on the FACTS?

or do you consider a 06 mercury marquis an indy car?

and since you wanted to call me out, what's up with your glaring ignorance?

the cooler an engine runs, the more pollution it will put out, and less power.

    http://mb-soft.com/public2/engine.html

"That is bad because lower temperature means lower pressure (Ideal Gas Law) and so less pressure pushes down on the piston."

"Now, the highest possible engine operating temperature is used, (reduced cooling performace described above) to improve engine efficiency and performance, which also reduces the amount of air pollution created in the process."

again, i was wrong in my statement (indy cars started running neat ethanol 8 MONTHS ago).

how many years has the ideal gas law been around?

    re-edit

just as i thought. you like to talk more than learn.

gasoline in an ICE is a gas- it's vaporized, like steam. but that's not what were are talking about.

how do you get a compression cycle in an open vessel?

when the air/fuel mixture is in the cylinder and the intake and exhaust valve are closed, it is indeed a closed vessel.

since it is such, the ideal gas law DOES apply. so much for college, eh?

heat is undesierable in an engine? what provides the work? pressure caused by heat expansion.

ethanol CAN provide more hp IF the motor is designed to use it exclusively. which production motors are not, and race motors are.

look dude, to anyone who knows, or races  ICE's, your making yourself look really foolish.

for example:   "Gasoline wastes all its energy heating up your engine and delivering less horsepower. "

so what your saying is when gasoline is burned, it doesn't push down on the piston. no, stupid gasoline immediately goes into the cylinder walls and out the exhaust.

but ethanol is smarter, it "knows" it needs to push down on the piston.

PLEASE take the time to read ALL the links i provided, so you can ACTUALLY learn something.

your ignorant in both fuels and the operation of internal combustion engines.

further, if your trying to save the environment, and getting 15% less economy, that would mean you use 15% MORE fuel.

which means it takes 15% MORE energy to cultivate, grow, manufacture and transport the fuel.

not to mention fossil fuels used to produce fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides, or soil errosion.

    way to go, ace.

    post script.

obviously you enjoy ignorance. you have no use for facts because they don't fit into your fantasy  world.

your butt-o-meter "proves" you drive a "fast" car when you use "fast" fuel.

you have no proof other than that. no documented proof, period.

oh, and some environMENTAL website said it's a good fuel.

a typical environMENTAList, when faced with truth, will repeat the party line, deny the truth, use fear, lie, fabricate and defame, but provide NO facts. where is your proof refuting my claim?

your arguement is "i used it" and "i said  so".

you appear to be a lost cause. you refuse to understand the theories of an ICE beyond a basic 5th grade level.

others, more objective, will take the time to read my posts and links and come to the conclusion you are indeed incorrect.

again, please read ALL (as in the whole page) of the material i provided and continue to tell me i am wrong.

oh ya, i AM a race driver and i don't use ethonal OR methonal in my drag car. want proof of that?

    pps-

i can't help you if you won't help yourself.

break free and expand your knowledge. it's fun!  please don't choose to stay ignorant on this subject. did you even bother to read?

    pps- sad

    fabricate,lie and half truth.

"Even your own links tout the reasons why ethanol is better than gasoline. The following comes from the link below it:"

why did you say it was my link? when it's yours?

did you put an aircraft motor in you 06 mercury marquis (lol- that's an impressive car BTW).

that's what YOUR LINK is talking about

    (air)craft.

also,  what happened to the indy motor you had in your 06 mercury marquis this morning?

when will you be intellectually honest?

why do you lie? you know your wrong?

do you think people here can't see through your blatant dishonesty?

all you can do is call names, lie and deny.

why can't you admit you are wrong?

    aren't you man enough?

come on you know you are, i've given you ample proof that you are wrong. just admit it, and grow from your mistakes.

    pps-

    you have a college degree?

that's a sad commentary on todays education system.

i can see why bush enacted "no child left behind".

    having a college degree,

does that make your lies more believable?

does that change the fact you use half truths and distort to attempt to look superior?

does it change the fact that in your own heart, you know your wrong?
